Very odd disk problem

Yes, I get the disk too slow message BUT, this only happens when my band is recording together (just 1 mic for listening purposes).
What the !#@%! is it?
This is really an annoyance.
If I record alone , it seems to react fine.
Do anybody have an answer for this??!!!
I can't buy a new hard drive at this moment and I know many people are using Minis just fine.

Mini 1.42, Mac OS X (10.3.9), 1 gb ram

Are you using Logic 7.1 or 7.1.1?

This never happened to me from Gold 5 up to 6 pro. The moment 7.1 Pro went in I started getting this message. Again intermitantly for no reason whatsoever.

Going back to 6.4.3 it doesn't happen. So it is definitely a v7 issue. I just hit stop and start again and it plays through the whole song with no trouble at all. Little help if you are going for a take though.

I am recording to a dedicated drive - Seagate 120gig 7200 speed, and always have. The drive has never changed.

The first thing that comes to my mind is power consumption. Is the whole band , or part of it plugged into the same circuit as the computer? Try giving the mac its own dedicated circuit

2nd thing are you recording at 16 or 24 bit? try 16 (driver Preferences)
Also under you driver preferences, turn off software monitoring, and use a higher buffer rate for your driver

under Audio pull down menu: turn off punch on the fly, and auto input monitoring

just as a side note, I have been recording my band live using my G3 iBook and Garageband. recording 2 Stereo tracks at a time, at 4400 16 bit with great results. then I can open the project into Logic for editing

I am using 7.1.1

I can hit stop and start again but it quits recording and just continues playing without recording.
I have no idea the problem what the problem is and it is really a bummer.
I need to get some tracks down live.

I am considering buying an external HD but what if this continues to happen even with a new drive!!!???

Yupe, I thought about power consumption too.
I put my guitar amp on an extension cord from another circuit thinking I fixed the problem but NO.
I do have some other items on the same circuit but they aren't big power hogs (mixer, etc).
I will try to put the Mini on it's own circuit tonight when I get home.
I can also say that my old CRT monitor is one the way out(leaky screen).
Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I also turned the trim way down on the input mixer thinking that the mic was too hot and sending too much info via USB.(I was getting desperate when I tried that one).

I tried almost all the tips you have listed.
I will try the others that you gave.

Good idea about recording in GB just to get by but it seems like a crazy way to go about things especially when we have paid money for software that is made by the same company that provides the hardware.

If the disk is actually too slow I wish they would have warned me and listed an external hard drive as a requirement on the box!
