Several things to try.
Might be a cookies issue.
Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then type eBay in the search field then click Remove All > Done
Now empty the Safari cache.
Restart your Mac, launch Safari, try eBay.
If that does not help, if you are running Lion v10.7 disable resume > How To Disable Lion's 'Resume' Feature - MacRumors.com
If you have anti virus software installed or pop up blockers, try disabling both, see if that helps.
Please launch the Network Utility application by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search. Select the "Lookup" tab and enter "www.ebay.com" (without the quotes) in the address field. Press return. Post the output -- the text, please, not a screenshot. Then select the "Ping" tab and do the same.

Please launch the System Preferences application and select the Network preference pane. If you connect to the Internet using Ethernet, you'll see a setting for "DNS Server." If you connect wirelessly, click the "Advanced" button, then the "DNS" tab. What is the address of the DNS server?
I use wireless and in Network under ethernet DNS is blank
sorry i didn't read the whole message in advance tab under wireless DNS Server says 10.1.1.1
That means your router is acting as a DNS proxy. Go into your router settings and look up the address of the DNS server it uses. If it's an AirPort device, you access the settings through the AirPort Utility application. Any other kind of router probably has a web page, which you may be able to access at http://10.1.1.1/
Thank you i went to that http address and was able to select the below option.
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address | |
Get Automatically From ISP |
Thanks again
Change the selected DNS servers in the router to these:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
Those are Google's public DNS servers. See if there's any improvement.
Isn't that the weirdest thing? I have had the same problem, and only with Ebay too!! I just added a dongle to get my iBook wireless again (took the Airport card out 2 years ago because of kernel panics) and since then, all week I haven't been able to get Ebay in any shape or form. Even my emails from Ebay have no photos attached!! So thanks to this thread, I found out how to use Network Utilities to send a ping - message was www.ebay.co.uk:
ping: cannot resolve www.ebay.co.uk: Unknown host. In my network preferences no DNS servers were shown, I couldn't find Advanced (10.4 thing?) and so just added the suggested Google servers as shown above, and Ebay sprang into life on my computer once more!! Thanks so much, but I would really like to know - WHY???
