I just updated my ipod and now it says it cannot be activated because the activation server cannot be reached. how do i fix this??

I have an ipod touch 4th generation. I simply was doing the update and was going through and re setting it up, when i came to the activation page it will not activate. it says to try to connect to itunes, but it will not connect to itunes because the "pairing record" is missing. it told me to contact apple.com/support but that didn't help me at all. How do i fix this problem?
