Q: Using Server Admin Tools on Lion Client to Snow Leopard Server

Please help - I am new at servers and have my mac mini running snow leopard server and finally got it all set up - now I want to admin the server from my macbook pro laptop

I checked the compatibility guide (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1822)  in apples docs and it states you can use Server admin tools 10.7.X on a Lion client for a SNS but when I launch server admin or work group manager and try to use them on my laptop to my server here is what console shows:

11/24/11 10:18:46.127 PM [0x0-0x5b05b].com.apple.ServerAdmin: Server Admin: OpenScripting.framework - scripting addition "/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax" declares no loadable handlers.

It looks like its boiling down to no mathcing architecture ? im guessing is a compatabiltiy problem - I have underlined in console paste above what I am focusing in on

Anyone have a workaround or having similar problem ?

What you're trying to do here works; 10.7.2 can use its Server Admin and related tools to manage remote boxes running Mac OS X Server 10.6.8.  That works.

As for that console dump, that looks to involve a pile of Adobe stuff that's getting its knickers in a tangle and disrupting Server Admin in the process.  That Adobe thread references an Adobe fix for 10.6 that might (also) apply here.  If not, it's a starting point.

So glad its you Mr. Hoffman - your guides are most helpful - thank you so much for what you do.

I did some digging and found out that since im running CS4 and that it trys to run on 64 bit mode but my Lion system and most folks systems I guess are in 32 bit mode - i had to down load some 32 bit Adobe Unit Types from Adobe and replace the ones on my system - restart - and bingo - im no longer getting those errors - see this link where i found this work around:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/516/cpsid_51615.html

That fix cleared a lot of the junk that adobe was doing but i am still getting error 1101 - see below

11/26/11 2:36:37.298 PM opendirectoryd: peer appears to be running Mac OS X 10.6 or earlier

    11/26/11 2:36:37.298 PM opendirectoryd: got error 1101

Any idea what this is ?

Lion is 64-bit, running on a 64-bit processor, and can run both 32- and 64-bit software.

What's your Open Directory configuration?  Any replicated OD servers?

Do you have different Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server configurations and different releases in use?

Was the LAN DNS stable and tested before the rest of the services were activated?

I spoke to apple and since i am using a lion client to admin a snow leopard server - even though I am using the proper admin tools per apple's own KB article - Apple us saying there may still be a glitch its running into across the different versions of OSX - they asked me to run an EDC and I am in process of doing that

Anything happen after this?  I have a 10.7.4 server that is giving that 1101 error a lot as well.  It is connected to an OD replica on 10.6.8.  For 2 weeks all of the 10.6.8 machines had no issue logging into their network accounts, but now nothing works.  Wondering if they helped you with this error any further.
