Q: iPhone 4S screen freezes after calls

My iPhone 4S has been giving me problems this past week after I make a call I won't be able to hang up or tap anything on the screen with a response I can tap the end call button and nothing with happen unless I press the lock button twice to hang up the call than again to lock the screen than slide to unlock than my iPhone will work fine. This is quite irritating! Is there any fix to this?

Would restoring as a new phone and not from a backup cause you to lose everything on your iPhone such as emails, notes, contacts, bookmarks, settings, music etc? I'm trying to avoid all that and keep everything I had already on the phone. iPhone worked flawless for 2 months before so it couldn't be a faulty backup especially since problem has come up 2 more times in a matter of 3 days. I guess a more certain way to determine if it is a corrupt back up is to restore onto a different iPhone 4s then I would concede that the backup I'm restoring from is faulty.

In my case the backup was from an iPhone 3G that has worked perfectly for 3 years. Then when I got my upgrade iPhone 4s and transferred everything from that backup it worked flawlessly for exactly 2 months. Then this problem arises 3 times in 4 days. If backup were corrupt wouldn't phone have problems from the get go and consistently may I add. I'm more apt to believe its an internal chip or something internal gone bad causing problem intermittently. I would hate to setup my iPhone as a new phone and start inputting everything into it all over again.

Judging by all the problems concerning phone issues on the new iPhones I would expect Apple to concentrate more on improving and fixing the phone section instead of introducing more features and frills as the main purpose is that this gadget is supposed to be primarily a phone.

Well I've beeen using that backup for 2 years. And i'm still using the same backup in my old 3gs iphone. It still works without any problem in my 3gs iphone. But as i said earlier i think somethings not right when i use that backup in my iphone 4S. ( well, its my wife's iphones actually )

Me and my wife both bought iphone 3gs at the same time. And we upgraded to 4S at the same time. But my iphone 4S is not having any problem. I'm also using my old 3gs backup. Its only my wife's iphone4S that's having a problem. Its weird why only hers and not mine ?? Well, maybe we use our phones in different way, we use different apps, games etc. her last backup was from ios 4.3.1(not sure) and mine was ios 4.2.1(not sure) but it was different from my wife's ios version.

I have tried this and it has not been any better since...It's so irritating grrrr

I am using NetCom / Norway.

I wonder if the reason for the problem could be the micro-SIM????

I've been having the same problem on my new 4S. Calls don't go through and then won't hang up. Texts failing often, etc. I think I might have just fixed it by simply turning Cellular Data on and off. Might want to give that a try before restoring.

I've tried switching cellular data on and off, same with airplane mode, wifi etc. etc. etc., the only thing that would correct it is a system restore. It has happened to me 4 times in two weeks and I'm not able to put up with that nonsense so I had Apple replace the phone. So far new phone is working nicely. But if I should have problems again I'm giving up on iPhones and going to an Android phone.

Having the same issue with my 3mo. 4S iphone with Verison service.  No recent downloads.  All of a sudden I am unable to hang up calls by using the end-call button.  I can end them by hitting the home button twice.  Very annoying.  Any help?

Same problem here. Bought the set in Jeddah from Jarir Store. After terminating the call, the screen becomes freeze, showing "call ending". Contacted Apple care in USA over phone and they advised me to change the sim. After changing the sim, unfortunately the same issue came back. Contacted Apple again and they agreed to change my set. However, I need to ship my current set to them to USA and they will in return send me a new set to Jeddah. This kind of reliable postal service is simply not avaiable here - unless I go for costly DHL type.

I tried the followings, which seem to work temporarily. However, as I mentioned above, the problem comes back after few days:

    1) restoring the set or

    2) restart the set

It is simply unacceptable - Apple should do something immediately to solve this issue !

Actually, restoring the phone to the factory settings and NOT restoring the backup solved the issue for me.  I have put back all apps and data manually, one by one. No freezes and no SMS sending problems any more.

Get over it. There's not a whole lot that can be done to fix your problem. Don't like it? Don't buy an iPhone. Restoring from a back up will bring back all the settings and potentially damaged software, but setting up as a new device and then auto syncing eliminates this potential issue because autosyncing doesn't involve connecting to the iTunes software servers whereas restoring from a backup will.

follow the steps in this link  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1970     and try to open itunes,  Control-click your iPhone  to see the Reset Warnings option and hit that button and that solved the issue for me.
