1080p/60fps workflow question- ability to conform?

Background: purchased a Panasonic TM900 camcorder to compliment my GoPro cameras for action sports work. The TM900's highest quality setting allows shooting at 1080 progressive, 60 fps. I'm on an dual core intel Imac.

Since purchasing the camera, I've learned what a bag of worms I've opened in editing AVCHD. I've got ClipWrap. After using it to create either a ProRes file from the .mts...OR rewrapping the .mts into a .mov, I'm going into Cinema Tools (v4.5.1), and it doesn't provide the opportunity to "conform" the files, which are still 1080p, 60.

Any suggestions? I really appreciate it!

THANK YOU, RUSS! I've spent about a week checking out various threads on DVinfo, Apple Support, Creative Cow- and I'm not sure how I missed the thread you posted.

If anyone stumbles on to this thread, here is the key - Panasonic AVCHD Importer for Mac: https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/desk/e/avc_download.htm#avccamip

Cheers!

Well, I've run some errands, come home, and realized this doesn't change much. It allows you to open mts files in Quicktime and FCP, but will lag & and is very processor intensive.

In addition, it doesn't change my original dilemma: How to conform a 1080 progressive, 60 fps clip to 30 for smooth slow motion.

Thank you for that, Shane. I use those steps in conforming my 720p/60 GoPro HD files...

alas, Cinema Tools doesn't seem to provide for 1080p/60. Opening the clip (ProRes), "Conform" isn't accessible (greyed out). I've tried batch conforming a folder containing said clips, but it "skips" them. Nothing ends up in the "Conformed" folder that is created.

I've only used Compressor to create my web version of my finished video projects (vimeo.com/whiteford), but I'm going to see if there is something within Compressor to make this possible. I just got a Lynda subscription, so I think I'll start there.

Yes, right now I'm using a ClipWrap trial to convert. I've tried the various available ProRes Codecs, (LT, 422, HQ), AIC, and rewrapping. When I first started researching this, all I kept finding were the veiled spam of pavtube, aunsoft, etc. I've been wanting to confirm a resonable workflow before going out and filming a bunch.

Thanks for your time, Shane.

hi,

has anyone come up with a solution yet?

i encounter the same problem: 1080p50 footage shot on a panasonic sd707 transcoded to prores HQ by either clipwrap or auntsoft panasonic AVCHD converter will NOT conform in cinema tools, button stays greyed out. clip analysis states prores codec.

weird: i DID conform material from this camera from 50p to 25p using this workflow about 2 years ago. maybe some update messed this up?

news:

a friend of mine, owner of a big video studio, confirmed the inability of my clips to be conformed by cinema tools. is this a quicktime problem (since it definitely worked on my setup in april 2010?

any help appreciated - i have 4 hours of wonderful material shot in 50p waiting to be edited...

cinema tools 4.5.1

quicktime player 7.6.6 and 10.0

macos 10.6.8

aunsoft panasonic AVCHD converter trial 1.4.5.3273

clipwrap trial 2.4.7

What format are your clips? Cinema Tools won't conform GOP formats like HDV, XDCAM, H.264. If you convert to ProRes first, it should work. YOu said you did it, but it isn't working. Well, try trashing the Cinema Tools preference? Digitalrebellion.com has PREFERENCE MANAGER and that will do it.

It should work. YOu yourself said you did it before.

Wait...ClipWrap TRIAL? Get the full version. Aunsoft Converter is highly unreliable. People who post here who said they used it to convert footage all have issues. Every time Aunsoft comes up, there's an issue with it.

hi shane,

thank you for getting back.

clips are 1080x1920 prores HQ 50 fps .mov. they were created with standard templates, both in aunsoft and clipwrap.

trashing CT prefs did not help.

i just did another test. sending the clip to 'cinema tools reverse telecine' directly out of FCP 7.0.3 results in the error messages (translated from german) 'one of your media files cannot be processed.' and immediately after 'error: for processing, no clips with 29,97 fps found.'. strange - since file infos both in quicktime player 7/10 and in FCP list view clearly state 50 fps...

so, it seems to me that the QT meta data is incorrect. and being so in both clipwrap and aunsoft files, this looks like a quicktime bug to me...

what do you think?

thanks a lot in advance!

PS: as i wrote, two years ago i did this most easily with clipwrap trial and CT. i do know where this conform box is. but now it is grey...

another try:

installed macos 10.5 on an external disk. installed final cut studio 3 out of the box purchased in april 2010. should be close to the setup i could conform my 50p clips two years ago. used recently clipwrapped files, though. did not work, same greyed out conform-box. :-(

will try later to find an old version of clipwrap. recent version 2.4.7 obviously does not work for me, versions 1.x won't do prores.
