Does "menu" button on new Apple remote work for iPod?

I tried using an Apple remote that came with my white MacBook to use with my iPod Classic. The buttons seem to work fine except for the "Menu" button. I have seen other posts, with people mentioning the same problem. You can only use the remote to control the play/pause, forward/backward and volume controls. I was wondering if anyone knew if the new Apple remote would solve that problem? Thanks.
