No, it does not. As has already been explained, slide to unlock can't be turned off without violating the warranty of the phone.

Well I have to say that I agree with having the ability to turn off slide lock because I have a 1 yr old daughter that likes to play with my old iPad but she is too young to grasp the idea of sliding the lock but she knows how to push the button. Now I also understand that with some time she will understnad how to slid the bar but that fact is I am not in favor of big government or big company telling me what's best of me and how I should be managing my life or device... So one vote for making it optional...

Sorry, DEMO, I have to agree that it serves no purpose FOR MY iPHONE. What I want, and in this day and age what I want is what I should get, is to turn on my phone's display and viola, there's my home page WITHOUT having to swipe anything.

I hate the damned thing... and hating "things" is the result of Windows software back in the '90's.

Ah, the infamous entitlement attitude... the root of many of societies current problems.

Maybe the point of it is for quick access to the camera so you don't miss a photo.  Plus there's a big clock to check the time and date quickly and put it right back away in your pocket.  It shows how far the battery is charged in a nice, sleek battery icon.  Plus you have your own extra wallpaper to make your iPhone your own.

Have we forgotten all these features?

How does it feel to want?

    Uh, you do realize that

1). This thread is really old

2). The OP was asking about the slide-to-lock on an iPad (because he posted it in the iPad forum).  Your post seems to be more in line with uses of a phone and don't really quite apply to most iPad uses.

As iPads go, his question was valid, it was discussed, several posters agreed, the Apple suggestion url was posted.  The chance of Apple implementing it as an option is slim to none.  Those of us who wish it were an option will just keep on wishing and sliding.

So?  It still exists, and enough other people are still replying.

Whoops, didn't realize this was the iPad forum.

    Oh, well.

These are still true : )

    For the iPhone, yes :)

Sent my request to Apple via the feedback link mentioned earlier to have the option added to either enable or disable the "Slide to Unlock" feature. Advising others that would like this to do the same.

  • robknack Level 1 Level 1

i would like to see this be an optional feature. i am thinking about using the ipad for home automation...to control tvs, lights, music. i do not want to be continually swiping the screen all of the time.

    So, tell Apple:

I agree with the original user, but I think the idea is to be able to "turn off" (or on) the Slide to Unlock feature in settings as opposed to having Apple remove it.  I, too, would like to go directly to the home screen without an extra required step.  I have made a habit of putting the iPhone to sleep after every use, so inadvertent button/app uses while awake are unlikely for me.  In general, the more options (to use what we like, and change what we don't), the better the user experience I think.

For iPhone 5S & later, no need since you can press and hold Home to unlock with TouchID.
