Why does iPhone have wrong iTunes account?

When I ask my iPhone to update apps, it asks me to sign into the wrong iTunes account. When I go to the Apps settings on my iPhone, the correct account is entered there but it is a different account than the one that asks me to sign in when I try to update my apps. When I check the account settings on iTunes on my computer, it has the correct account. How do I get my iPhone to access the right iTunes account?

Yes, this is happening to me.

Even though no apps from my husband's account are on my phone, and my phone is logged into my account, it keeps asking me to log into his account to update my apps.

I have tried signing out of and into my own account in Settings.

No answer to this problem has been presented in this thread yet. Any solutions?

I have the exact same issue as Ian. I did what you said, Jim, to 'sign out'. Signed back in and had same problem. Shut off iPhone and restarted it; same problem. Signed out again and BEFORE signing back in, went in to update apps and got the same message - it's asking me to enter a password for someone else's iTunes account. HELP! (please). When I go into Settings > About, it says's it's my phone, but when I try to update apps, it tries to log me into someone else's iTunes account. How can I fix this? Thank you.

Hello everyone,

I solved this riddle yesterday for my mom. She tried to update a couple apps but it asked for an email address that she no longer uses in association with her iTunes. The reason that it asks for a different iTunes account, rather than the one that you're now using as your main account, is because that particular app(s) was purchased using an the email address it is requesting. Every purchase you make is associated with a specific email, no matter if you now use a new account. Thunk of it like a credit card purchase, that purchase will always be associated with that card, none other.

Two options here:

1. delete and re-download these apps using your preffered apple ID, which will eliminate the need of remembering multiple IDs (this is a good idea if the apps are free, otherwise you'd have to repurchase.

2. Punch in the old password to update. If the account is no longer active, you're going to have a hard time retrieving the password if you've forgotten it.

I hope this helps.

Michael

My husband & I each have our own iTunes / Apple accounts on my computer. He used his account, then forgot to log out. When I connected my iPhone to my computer, the Apple account thought it was my husband's phone. Now, when I plug my phone into my computer it still recognizes it as my husband's phone. When I try to upate my apps (now 17 to update!) it asks me to log into Husband's iTunes account. Someone from Apple please help! I love your products. Please help us fix this glitch. Thank you in advance.

i wish someone were posting an answer, as the SAME issue just started occurring for me. Has anyone been able to figure out how to get the updating to go back to the correct account? My situation is exactly the same. I have tried all of the above fixes. My account is listed in the Settings, signs in to iTunes just fine - but tries to log me into a different iTunes acount when attempting apps updates.

what gives?
