Will a fridge magnet damage my ipad?
I was thinking of using a rectangular fridge magnet to dirct the sound towards me. Can the magnet do any damage to my iPad2 or its data?

Today we have storage devices that consist of flash memory in the form of memory cards, USB thumb drives, solid state drives , etc. These forms of storage are immune to magnetic fields. Flash memory doesn’t contain anything magnetic inside and therefore it would be immune to magnetic influences. Solid state drives exist in the iPod touch, Nano, and Shuffle, iPhone, iPad, and late-model MacBook Airs. None of these should be harmed by the magnets.
Cheers, Tom 😉

Technically, magnetic fields can damage or disrupt any electronic device, by inducing an electric current in the circuits, but they have to be very strong and varying in order to do so. Not something you'll find in a fridge magnet.
Dan, I'd suggest that you use a more conventional solution, which will also work better: headphones or external speakers.
No, but I'm not sure how it will redirect sound.
Sure it can damage your iPad if you throw it at the iPad hard enough but not because of its magnetic field.

Let me explain by noting that when I'm using my iPad on my lap, the sound goes out the bottom/side (depending on orientation) of the iPad. But when I cup my hand at the speaker port, the sound comes to me louder and more clearly. I am going to make a kind of sound redirecter attached to the iPad with a fridge magnet--kinda like a victrola horn.
Thanks for your comments. Sometimes I want to watch a podcast without the discomfort of the earbuds or phones. I tired using an index card I curved and tuck between the iPad and the smartcover. it works, but hardly an elegant look!
