iPhone 4 constantly shows No Service

My iPhone 4 with ios5.0.1 always show 'No Service'. Sometimes it happened once a day, but sometimes 5 times a day. What I did was that I enabled the 'Airplane' mode and disabled it again, I will then see full bar of reception but the carrier's name (in my case is Maxis) didn't appear. I was unable to make call/ receive call. When others call me, they heard the normal ring tone, however, my phone won't ring.

In order to get back the reception, I have to restart my phone.

Has anyone experienced it? I have tried googled, some said it could be due to firmware, some said it's hardware, some said it's carrier. Hope someone can advise.

Hi guys, I have iPhone 4 16 Gb ( Maxis Pre-Paid- Modem firmware 04.11.08- Original IOS and no jailbreak) I had the same issue started when

I didn't have any issues with IOS 4.3.3 until a friend told me about IOS 5

I upgraded to IOS 5.0

I had intermittent problem of getting no service ( or having the signal and maxis logo but no call could be made or received and sms also) when I moved to Bukit Jalil and returned back to serdang and first I thought it is because of service provider. At first It was getting ok by a simple reboot.

The funniest part was when I called my friend next to me his phone was ringing and I coudn't hear anything (dialing tone) and I coudn't hang up like the phone was in a problem. I had to kill the task with task manager. Even friends called me without even the phone to ring for a single time, and they thought I wasn't answering the phone.

Then I upgraded to IOS 5.0.1 and I thought there it is, that is the fix but no luck, I upgraded to that without using iTunes. Problem persisted and I reinstalled the IOS 5.0.1 with iTunes and there was no luck.

I went through many posting which suggested me to change the sim card (mine is cropped sim cardto micro sim card) and I went to maxis center and they refused to do so because of no reason. They said they have recieved nomerous complains.

Two days ago I lost signal ( Maxis siganl was there but I was unable to receive or make calls receive sms or send any ) and resetting it many times didn't help.

I tried to restore the phone to original factory setting and it worked for 1 day and returned to its chrinical problem just now.

What I did this time was to enable cellular data and disable it and it solved the issue even without restarting it.

If you guys have this issue try this one as it saved me from smashing my lovely iPhone 4

Yes, we all have the same problem like what you described as mentioned in the earlier post. And although enabling and disabling 'celullar data' fixed the problem, it doesn't solve it completely. Sometimes it happens a few times a day. Worse is, both Kian Wei and I are experiencing this issue when our phone shows full bar with Maxis logo so we were unaware that our phone is out of service.

Hi .... I am experiencing the same thing .... my carrier is also Maxis from Malaysia. Its been happening to my phone for 10 times now today. Same symptoms ... No Service then i will not be able to recover the signal. I had to turn off and turn on my phone each time it happens and its getting kind of annoying. I have'nt tried turning on and off the cellular data yet though ... hope it works.

I reinstalled my os on Sunday and it worked fine for a few days. I switched to Airplane mode last night and switched it back to normal mode this morning, then it showed 'No Service'. This time it didn't work even when I enabled and disabled the 'Cellular Data'. I had to restart my phone to get back the signal.

Kian Wei, you mean your phone hanged in the middle of the call? What did you do to get it back? Enabled cellular data or restart?

How to check our carrier version?

Apparently this 'No Service' problem happened since 2009 as I saw ppl posted it in forum back then. In other words, it is affecting users with different os. So what are the Apple staffs doing??? No solution or not doing their job? After so many postings and so many years, no one even step out to advice. A rotten Apple, looks good but the basic function doesn't even work well!

The same thing is happening here in Ireland on O2 network... definitely an Apple bug.. a phone that says "No Service" but it rings when people call it and you can call people but you can't here them... it is clearly not fit for it's purpose and a breach of contract from Apple. I am contacting the telecommunications ombudsman and the government to find out what avenues are available to me under consumer rights and legislation... this is not acceptable.
