iPhone 4 constantly shows No Service

My iPhone 4 with ios5.0.1 always show 'No Service'. Sometimes it happened once a day, but sometimes 5 times a day. What I did was that I enabled the 'Airplane' mode and disabled it again, I will then see full bar of reception but the carrier's name (in my case is Maxis) didn't appear. I was unable to make call/ receive call. When others call me, they heard the normal ring tone, however, my phone won't ring.

In order to get back the reception, I have to restart my phone.

Has anyone experienced it? I have tried googled, some said it could be due to firmware, some said it's hardware, some said it's carrier. Hope someone can advise.

I would wait for iOS 5.1...

iOS 5.01 (9A405) and iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) are very buggy. I would probably say the most buggy OS Apple has ever released. I remember when iPhone OS 3.1 was extremely buggy but this takes the cake. Post Steve Jobs... For testing purposes, I used an Android all week in the same route that I do with my iPhone and not a single issue, so I can rule out my carrier. It is all Apple. My next phone will be Android and all because Apple can't get it right... 4+ months and counting and no release yet for a fix since iOS 5!

Well just got the first response from the iphone repair shop today, they cant find out whats wrong with it,

the water thingy has not released and the motherboard shows no sign of damage, they tried move the internal parts to a new phone but with no success, still just search for networks, they will keep on trying and keep me posted, but so far it doesn't sound good, if its not the software that has blowed the hardware in some way, my suggestion was to try some older version of the firmware if possible??

This same thing happend to me. I tried these things to solve the problem:

- Factory reinstall

- recovery from a old backup

- Deactivated 3g, wifi, computer traffic etc.

- Actived airplane mode and off.

- Clean install as a new iphone

- Changing simcard

- And more...

But, after contacting apple support they checked out my issue and UPS came to take my iphone for support. After 1 day I got a new Iphone. It works fine! everything is back to normal.

Sorry for any typing error.

Thats great! But when warranty is out they wont come out and get it! This is my second phone as i got a refurbished one for 4 months ago, the first time it was the Home button malfunctioning.. now its this ****

"No Service" issue... and no it doesnt work to reset network settings, and remember that it worked to begin with

but now its constant "No Service" and nothing will work! So just a warning it will probably happen to you guys

that have the milder form of "No Service" that will be solve by a reboot or reset network settings, so before its to late turn it in!!

Ok guys,

If it is this bad for you, I would swap the iPhone. If that doesn't work, contact Apple Care and request a refund and get a phone that works... such as an Android. I have the No Service / Searching bug but not nearly as bad as you guys are saying... After reading all your post, if I were you, I would be returning the iPhone and getting a refund. Apple has to either repair, replace or refund the device. If they can't repair it to work or replace it with one that works, then ask for a refund. This would in turn get Apple out with iOS 5.1 as the last thing they want is refunds being issued left, right and centre!

So ask for a repair. Ask for a replacement. If that doesn't work, ask for a refund and refer them to past repairs/replacements with no such luck. It's that simple.

Cant ask for refund when there is no Warranty, and iphone has only 1 year warranty while all other phones has 2 year warranty!! So it *****! 😟 and they have no godwill as i tried talking to applestore in stockholm sweden.

So basically i wont buy a iphone again and i wont recommend one!

But for now i will wait and see what the repair shop has to say about this, if they cant fix it or not.

Most of the ppl are are impressed, and so fond about Iphone & same happened to me. Oooop .. .. I decided to buy an IPHone 4 & everything going fine.

BUT when IPhone4S launched, then launching OS 5 then OS 5.0.1 , i had real nighmare.

I bought a IPhone 4S and immediately switched to new OS mentioned. Then the problem started.

1) Within a week the phone hanged , no calling out & in

2) when i try to call then i pressd END to shut down ; " screen appeared Call Ending ....... ......"

3) Messages also failed

Funny thing Emaill still coming in , is that strange ??

I seek for help and I went to Shah Alam Celcom Centre(Malaysia), the customer service ask me sending to Blue Cube collection centre for service & it will take One month to return ??

Funny, he said Blue Cube can borrow phone to temporary ; if NOT is he telling me to buy another low quality phone while waiting for my expensive Iphone4S to return ??

Please be honest, Is Iphone4S technically malfunction ? OS 5 failed ?

I hope Apple should RECALL all IPhone 4S & give full refund unconditionally.

many thanks.

First of all I'd like to point out that i'm speaking for every poor sod who has to sit through all of these posts, make sense of it all and try to help the people who actually WANT help and are not just here for a moan.

1st) You realise that Apple don't care what you post in this forum right. They dont monitor them at all, even says so in the terms of service you agreed to when you signed up. Also this media attention you speak of? Apples reputation for talking to the press on there own terms is legendary. It doesn't matter how much of a stink you or anyone kicks up it won't do any good so why bother?

2nd) The 'Senior managers' you talk about won't do anything. They'll offer to replace the phone and thats it. You'll get no special compensation from it so playing the big man and shouting at someone down the phone won't work cause they'll tell you in the most of polite terms to **** off. So dead end here.

3rd) I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 on the 9a405 baseband on Vodaphone UK and DO NOT have the problem. In the same breath i'd also like to point out that my best mate has a 4S running 9a406 on O2 who also, does not have the issue. So answer me this sir. If its the phone and its firmware why is it only affecting some of you? Lets face it, compared to how many phones have been sold compared to those of you who are ACTUALLY having the issue described here and not jumping on the old 'iPhone no service' bandwagon the issue in insignificant, especially when compared to the iPhone 4's intial release back in 2010 when it really was a problem. If it was Apples software or hardware EVERYONE would be having it regardless of network and model (All iOS 5 capable devices)

Have ANY of you actually bothered to isolate the issue futher other than seeing a few people on a website rant about it, think 'ooo this matches my problem' and joined in with the rant and moan?

Have ANY of you actually bothered to do STANDARD network troubleshooting such as

> Reset network settings

> Try the sim card in another iPhone

> Get your sim card swapped

> Deleted the IPSW file from your computers and restored the phone, forcing it to download new software and not use a possible faulty install

> Restore as new without putting all your garbage back on (3rd party apps CAN & DO cause issues. I speak from experiance)

> Contacted your mobile provider to confirm no issues are present

Yes this is a rant, yes i'm expecting a fair few of you to turn around and tell me to get lost and to be honest I welcome it. It will seperate the people who are here for a ***** and moan and demonstrate just how ******** they are, from the people who actually do want help which is what these forums are ment for!

Thank you & good night

Face the same problem recently. Quite fed up for the new IOS 5.0.1. No matter how many times restart the devices, it still appear as "NO SERVICE".

However...

i solved my problem by updating the CARRIER SETTING from my MOBILE SERVICE PROVIDER. How?

1. Restore from factory setting. Once finish restoring, it will connect to your network, still, at this phase, u still can't connect to my mobile service and appear as "NO SERVICE".

2. When continue, iphone will ask for restoring setting from itunes, and now appear a message box "new update of carrier setting from XXXXX is avaible, do you want to proceed?" Click Yes. After update... it directly reconnect back to my mobile service.

Good Luck to you all.

My I phone 4 32gb on update iOS 6.1.3 shows (no service) there is no problem with the SIM card as I have tried it in another handset and works fine.

I've been to the apple store and they can find no solution even after diagnostic checks taking the phone to pieces and even reinstalling the software again.

Can anyone at apple give me the answer?

I have tried pretty much every solution of your posts but to no joy.
