Can you install MAC software on IBM hardware?

Hey, I have a quick question. I know almost nothing about Macs, and I’m curious to see what they’re like. I have an old Aptiva IBM computer (win 98) that’s sitting around. I was wondering if it would be possible to install a Mac OS on an IBM computer. Are there any conflicts between the software and hardware?

(Sorry if this is already asked, but I couldn't find it elsewhere.)

Darn. In that case, does anybody have a recommendation of what would be a cheap but worthwhile MAC to get, just to see what they're like, without having to shell out a ton of money for a brand-new G5?
