Ipod Nano 1st Gen. Replacement - status/follow up?

I submitted a replacement request on 11/13 and immediately received an email confirmation. Since then I haven't heard anything, when I check the status it days"diagnosis pending", is there anyway to follow up?

I filled out the form online day 2 of the program and still waiting. People who got their replacements have received refurbished 1G nanos. They have tons of the old ones ... don't count on getting anything other than what you are sending in. Sure it would be nice to get a newer model. Oh and I'd also like a puppy too! 😉 (an iPup?)

What I really want is a status update from Apple. I actually still use the iPod with outdoor speakers and don't want it to catch fire!

I wish Apple would just email us a pre-paid shipping label or a link to one so that we could mail it back to them in our own packaging. Just like places othere places do for returns.

WHY to they insist on giving us their box? How special does this magic box need to be? Do they think we're so inept that we can't safely pack a friggin' iPod Nano?

I submitted my request on Nov. 13th and got the same confirmation email that it looks like everyone else did. Still no box here.

The replacement process states "You may order a replacement unit via the web."

I am betting all an Apple retail store will help you do is verify the serial number of the Nano, and assist you with placing the order online, if anything.

"If you need assistance with placing an order, please visit an Apple Retail Store and bring your iPod nano with you for serial number validation."

I just got off the phone with AppleCare Support, and was told that their systems say to tell callers that due to the backlog of requests it will take 4-6 weeks to receive the box. Then you have 10 days to return the iPod.

...and my thought is "if it takes that long to send me a box, I wonder how long it will take to send me the replacement nano?"
