It would be a cool publicity stunt from Apple to give us all refurb current editions.

I filled out the form online day 2 of the program and still waiting. People who got their replacements have received refurbished 1G nanos. They have tons of the old ones ... don't count on getting anything other than what you are sending in. Sure it would be nice to get a newer model. Oh and I'd also like a puppy too! (an iPup?)
What I really want is a status update from Apple. I actually still use the iPod with outdoor speakers and don't want it to catch fire!

I wish Apple would just email us a pre-paid shipping label or a link to one so that we could mail it back to them in our own packaging. Just like places othere places do for returns.
WHY to they insist on giving us their box? How special does this magic box need to be? Do they think we're so inept that we can't safely pack a friggin' iPod Nano?
I submitted my request on Nov. 13th and got the same confirmation email that it looks like everyone else did. Still no box here.

Remember this is Apple. I'm sure a 4-5 year old iPod recall is not high on the priority list 3 weeks before X-mas.....
Mine was sitting in a drawer unused for a loooong time. I'm in no hurry.

Has anyone tried taking the nano to an apple retail store for replacement or THE BOX?
Currently Being ModeratedDec 5, 2011 11:10 AM (in response to lewfromabq)
The replacement process states "You may order a replacement unit via the web."
I am betting all an Apple retail store will help you do is verify the serial number of the Nano, and assist you with placing the order online, if anything.
"If you need assistance with placing an order, please visit an Apple Retailand bring your iPod nano with you for serial number validation."

I just got off the phone with AppleCare Support, and was told that their systems say to tell callers that due to the backlog of requests it will take 4-6 weeks to receive the box. Then you have 10 days to return the iPod.
...and my thought is "if it takes that long to send me a box, I wonder how long it will take to send me the replacement nano?"

Apple states up to 6 weeks to get your replacement.
Hopefully by spring....

Original poster here - just went through the Apple Express service and spoke with Phil. He acknowledged my "request for service" on November 13 and that my Nano is covered by the replacment program - says I should be getting a box in 7 days.

i went to the covent garden store, and he said go to any apple store and you would be given an older, refurb, such as a 2nd/3rd gen, so i went to straford westfield the next day, and they said that he was wrong and you have to go online, which i did and i recieved a box. no one seems to understand whats going on, its crazy.
