Safari problems with ATT U-Verse with Motorola NVG510 gateway

Just installed ATT U-Verse with Motorola NVG510 gateway. Now Safari pages won't completely load - lots of errors. Other browsers work OK. Are there settings in Safari that need to be changed to work with the Motorola gateway?

Before switching to ATT U-Verse, Safari and all other browsers worked OK. Now Safari, Firefox, and Chrome all have problems completely loading pages.

There is also a Windows PC in the house, running Windows 7. It does not have any of these problems.

Anybody else with ATT U-Verse using the Motorola NVG510 gateway seeing these same issues? And has anybody found a fix to the problem?

Might be a cache issue.

Go to ~ / Library / Caches / com.apple.Safari

Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash and restart your Mac.

~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder

For Lion v10.7 To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not help significantly.

Here's an example of errors indicated:

open www.msn.com in Safari

status message says 27 errors occured

open activity window and see that 10 of 37 items loaded with 27 errors

all the errors are shown as "the internet connection appears to be offline."

Just checked running Windows 7 on my iMac as a virtual machine on VMware Fusion and the same problem shows up with IE, Firefox, and Safari on Windows 7.

Also checked a PC running Windows 7 and the problem does not show up there. Checked IE, Firefox, and Safari - no page load errors.

My iMac is a late 2009 Quad Core I7 running Lion, with all the latest software updates for OS, Safari, Firefox, etc.

Thanks, this workaround seems to do the trick.

Since my iMac has the page load problem the worst, it was easiest to set the DNS server address as you suggested in this one device. The NVG510 log showed the "no responce from nameserver..." error that you mentioned, so my next step was to go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS and change the DNS server address from 192.168.1.254 to 68.94.157.1 then check to see if I still got page load errors.

Changing the DNS address this way appears to have fixed the problem on my iMac.

Now if only ATT can get their act together and fix this issue with the NVG510, all will be good.

Happy I could help. AT&T are apparently slowly becoming aware of the issue (I have another issue being handled, and the tech guy I was in touch with says they're working on it).

They will have to issue a a firmware update for those modems probably, so I imagine it will take several weeks at the lest.

At any rate, apart from that, the device itself works pretty well.

Thanks again, this problem was very annoying.

So far I'm happy with AT&T U-Verse DSL and the NVG510. I was using a DLink WiFi router and replaced it with the NVG510 since the Motorola device works very well, other than the DNS problem.

We're resigned to slow response time from AT&T. From all I can see, the different parts of the company don't communicate with each other.

Been having the "Safari cannot find server" error since I got U-verse and the NVG510 in October 2011 as well.

Not to dredge up an old problem, but ATT/U-verse still has no clue as to when a dependable and user friendly fix is forthcoming. I spent over 4 hours on the phone yesterday with Teir 1 tech, Tier 2 tech, and a Tier 2 tech supervisor trying to fix this issue. Long story short the supervisor connected me with the pay-to-fix Connect-Tech department after she guaranteed me they could fix it.

Well...Connect Tech couldn't fix it and was actually reading this thread, and others off the web, to me when I was on the phone with them. Everyone seems to agree, though no one at U-verse will admit, that the modem is flawed and they need a firmware update to correct our issues.

Spent another hour on the phone today to get my Connect Tech refund as they admitted it was a modem/Uverse compatability with scertain browsers (Safari in my case) issue.

Don't waste your time and money with ATT tech on this issue. I guess we'll have to wait for this "fix" to be created and distributed and be patient (hard for me to do) with the crappy serive that I'm currently paying for.

so I'm on line right now with AT&T regarding this issue. It's the first time I got someone there to say that ATT U-Verse is really not compatable with Safari. Can you even believe that? After hours of being on the phone and on line help trying to understand why pages won't load. Really, really, really sorry I ever went back to ATT. You would think that they would ask when your calling about their plans to say "are you using Safari, if so, this package wont' work well", but no, that is not in their sales pitch. They're answer is, just use a different browser. HA, you don't get it ATT, I don't want to or should I have to. And on top of it all, I can't get inot my on line accounts and I have 3 different service with them of which all have their own billing and log ins. Hello ATT, get into the 21st century!!!!!!!!!!

i THINK I many have found a solution to this ATT Uverse, Safari, Motorola problem!!

I just got off the phone with Apple Care. We changed my DNS servers in my Macbook to, and added these servers to my existing servers on my iPad and iPhone:

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

We added both of these to all devices.

MAKE NOTE OF YOUR OLD DNS NUMBERS BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANYTHING JUST IN CASE YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO THE ORIGINALS.

30 minutes on the phone with Apple Care and I'm not having issues on any of my devices using Safari.

No "Safari can't find server" errors and no partial page loading!!

They suggest I play around nwith things for a couple days under "normal" use conditionis and see if the problems come back.

Good luck!!

Thanks for your post. U-verse was just installed yesterday, and I immediately had problems with loading Safari. When I switched to Firefox, my Gmail account was also affected.

I used the DNS numbers you posted, and they WORKED!!

(BTW, the AT&T technician hedged that U-verse "didn't like" Safari or Firefox and preferred Internet Explorer.)

From what I've read online and what both ATT (who doesn't want to admit there's a problem) and Apple it's a problem with the Motorola modem and a firmware update is required to fix it.

Since that fix is not forthcoming, I changed my DSN servers a few days ago per advice from Apple (see posts above) and everything has been working fine since.

ATT is not going to help you with this nor will they readily admit any responsibility for selling us crappy hardware (Motorola NVG510 modem) with our service.

So okay ATT just left my house did nothing other then the so-called troubleshooting then told me its my browser I told them my Safari browser works everywhere els even with att 2wire then he said sorry thats all I can tell you and if you want to cancel then you have to call ATT WOW after 20+HRs of my Life on the phone trying to fix this crap THX for posting they want to make me think Apple is the problem who to trust?!? I'm taking this to my #fb Fam & TwitterWorld! Class Action Law Suit!
