I received the following email today from the following email address

APPLE <appleid@id.apple.com> but suspect this is a fraulant email sent to capture ones identy etc.

But can find no way on the Apple site where such supecious actions can be reported or confirmed as actually being sent from Apple.

Any suggestions.

Thanks for the info. I just woke up from a nap and discovered that I had received the very same email. Whoever this wannabe scammer is, he must be very young and stupid, because if you hover over the link in Apple Mail, it clearly says "http://kingofcostumes/apple/apple.htm". Being as it is so evidently a ruse, only very novice users are going to fall for this, at least I hope so.

I did a WHOIS on the domain, and here is what the Terminal spits back for the guy:

I just forwarded the original scam message to reportphishing@apple.com. Here is the automated email that I got back from them:

Thank you for contacting Apple to report a “phishing” e-mail or suspicious website.

Please note that, unless we need additional information, you may not receive an update from us. However, please be assured that Apple takes its customers’ security very seriously. We review and investigate each report of phishing or online abuse and will take immediate action to stop any fraudulent activity.

Thank you for helping Apple to identify and stop phishing and fraud.

Best regards,

Apple Inc.
