Iphone 4s No Service Fix

I know alot of people are so angry about this problem and i am one of you but i managed to follow this issue inorder to find a solution and finally after alot of work, i managed to find the problems that cause it and found a solution for every case possible.

let me start with the problems that cause this issue.

CASE 1 (SIM Cards): Iphone 4s requires a specific sim card wiring technique different a little bit than before.

Solution 1: Simply contact your carrier and order the newest sim card available. ( 128K better than 64K ) and it case the new micro sim card did not work, order a regular sim card and cut it to the size of the micro sim.

CASE 2 (Carrier Network) : Iphone 4s has 2 antennas giving it the ability to connect to 2 signals at the same time causing the signal to shift from one hotspot to another without cutting the network. but to achieve that, the connection between the two spots must be perfectly synchronized and from the same type ( ex: 3g to 3g or edge to edge or gprs to gprs or 2g to 2g. any light mismatch will cause the phone to lose the signal and never be able to abtain it back ( No service will appear, and you are forced to restart your device or reset network setings ). and unforunately, we dont have the option in the iphone 4s to restrict our device to a specific network type unlike older devices. Im not sure that apple can fix this issue with an update, its the responsablity of the network companies to remove such errors from their infrastructures.

Solution 2: Order the 2g only sim card or a 3g only sim card, and it will work perfectly untill a better solution is found " but both solutions have advantages and disatvanteges. The 2g line will let you obtain a very good signal all over the country but you will not be able to connect to 3g network.

while the 3g line will let you obtain a good signal only in specific areas in the country but you will be able to use cellular data. or if you have a factory unlocked device, you can try to swith to a different carrier

Case 3 ( Iphone Software ): Sometimes, when you udate your device firmware or download any ios, there is a possibilty of an orror to occur without being noticed and that error will not also be noticed during the installation of the firmware, ending up on your device causing fialure.

Solution 3: 1- download latest itunes 10.5.1

2- download a fresh ios 5.0.1 ( from itunes not from iphone device )

3- Go to DFU mode, Open itunes and restore as new iphone (to avoid any remaining traces of previous corruption or error)

4- Go to Settings --> Phone --> Sim Pin and turn it OFF

5- Turn On airplane mode and wait 15 seconds

6- Turn OFF airplane mode

7- Go to Settings --> Carrier --> Automatic ( turn it off and select your network manually )

Case 4 (Iphone Hardware): some series of the 4s and specially the first serie delivered, had a problem in teir sim reader, and to help you more to identify this seire, simply go to Settings --> General --> About and check the model number if it starts with MD2 then you are not lucky and you phone may never work with your carrier

Solution 4: if you have a factory unlocked device, please consider changing the carrier and give it a try 90 % of the times it work, other than that, you must take your iphone back and order a replacement.

I will be happy to answer any question

Hi Sandeep,

Tried this, and after a month of network issues, no service, invalid sim, it finally is working perfectly for a day now. Hoping for this to last. Thanks for suggesting this.

I had tried various things with 2 sims of different networks, multiple number of times I restored (but always with one or the other sim installed), the two antennas in my case seemed to have locked on to these two networks. Many times it used to briefly show me the name of the second network on the first sim, or vice versa.

Looks like when you restore with no sim installed, the networks that are locked on to the two antennas are cleared. After this when I inserted one sim and connected, even though it gave me the error "Itunes could not check for an update to the carrier settings for your IPhone. An unknown error occurred (1630)" it is still working perfectly OK.

Vishal

I'm on my third 4s now, all with the same problem..droppng calls and losing service. Iphone 4 and 3 worked fine, same carrier for 15 years, new sim, reset, retored, set up as new phone etc. it ***** has cost me a small fortune in lost time.

All this in a month or so. Its not a faulty hardware, how can 3 new phones do the same thing? seems after the ISO 5.0.1 update it didn't work, tried it prior to the update and it was ok. After update dropped 12 calls in 3 hours.

Apple fix this now!!

Guys. I found the reason for Sim failure. I was thinking that this error occurs at any time, there is no particular time or event that throw this particular error. I think the diagnostics report in the phone is the

Main reason of this failure. I tried taping of sim, different sims, restoring. But nothing has worked so far. So i switched off the diagnotics n usage setting to not send automatically. It has worked for me. Try this solution..

I bought factory unlocked iPhone 4S 32GB. It seemed like working before realizing I had upgraded version to 5.0.1 (OTA update). After that my phone stopped working and only few times it rang. I even changed the SIM card of my wife (who is using iPhone 4) but mine worked in 4 but her SIM didn't work in 4S.

In Chennai service guys ran diagnostics could not resolve the issue then finally replaced new phone which is currently running 5.0.0. Not sure if I can upgrade and my Model number is MD245ZP.

My first day after buying the phone was a real horror, especially after spending a fortune!

Hope Apple address this issue with top priority.

City : Bangalore

Country : India

Carrier : Vodafone

Purchased iPhone 4s from Reliance Digital this week on Sun.

Cut my older sim card from a local shop and inserted it

Older sim card already had 3g activated.

Network dropping every 3-5 min since I put it in. Tried restore and everything. It kept showing Airtel for a few seconds and then looped back to Vodafone everything it was able to get a signal.

Since yesterday no more network and it just said no service

Checked with Vodafone and they were very kind to provide me a micro-sim today. I am amazed by the level of customer support they provided. Simply awesome !

De-activated 3g and activated 2g before activating the micro-sim through carrier.

Put in Micro Sim and it works like a charm (This is not 128k micro-sim. It must be either 32 or 64). Caught signal in seconds and has been rock solid since then. Signal bar keeps going up and down at times but the phone doesnt lose network.

I am on 5.0.1 update. Model number starts with MD.

So far no issues. Will continue to monitor it for a week and then try going back to 3g.

For me my older sim was definately having some major issues and sometimes cutting the older sims (mine was about 6 years old) simply damages it. Beware about that. Get the micro-sim.

If I continue to have issues with 3g then will go to Apple for Diagnostics.

Hope this helps.

• I had the same problem on my new iphone 4 S (unlocked factory) , showing invalid sim (my sim from MTC Lebanon ); after rebooting many times , it was working minutes to few hours , and the problem reappears. So I asked help from my line operator, by going there physically ; they couldn’t solve the problem . So I begun innovating and trying, at the end , i found a part of the solution; I tried sims from other operators ( from ALFA lebanon and ORANGE france , the first was a large one , others were small without one copper edge . • It WORKS, but with one default ,my number was not shown in settings; the problem was from the iphone , no capable of reading the sim. • But why ?? all sims worked well on iphone 4 and all other mobile phones (after repasting the microsims with their covers ). • I had to send messages to all my list of contact to inform them my new number .I waist time and money , thanks to APPLE. I wish that someone from APPLE read this failure and try to fix the problem and inform us. • ( Nabil from Lebanon)

First of all Thanks to EDDERGHAM for his efforts on finding a solution to this issue.

But how sure are you about the case 4? I mean, I bought iPhone 4S 64gb White from Singapore's 2nd Shipment. Their 2nd Shipment was launched on 11th November I guess. Before it they finished their first stock. But the iPhone 4s which I bought is having the same issue.

First of all, i opened the box and connected phone to itunes for activation. Unfortunately it couldn't verify the sim and shown an error saying Invalid Sim. But after I changed it's sim tray to my iPhone 4's sim tray I was able to get service. But it gets disconnect anytime. So to get back the connection everytime I had to restart. Its firmware is 5.0

This phone's model also starts with MD2.

My brother's phone is from they very first shipment and it is fine.

My second story:

I have bought another iPhone 4S 32gb black from Australia on 28th November. Its model number also starts with MD2.

I am sure these two phones are not from the first shipment. Infact those are from the most latest shipments of Apple.

So my question is are you very clear about the 'case 4' with strong evidence?

In thise forum I can see many users having phone models starts with MD.

Following up from my post earlier. Monitored 24 hours on 2g and it was working fantastic. No network drops, no call drops. Went ahead and worked with my carrier to go back to 3g. Works fine. Speeds are awesome !!! No call drops.

For me the micro-sim did the trick. I think there were 2 issues :

1) My older sim was damaged when I cut it

2) There was some changes in the network that the carrier did.

They assured me when I was going to 3g that 99% it would work. I am not sure what they did but whatever it was, works for me 🙂

Now --- There is a new issue I noticed. The music output quality between my iPod touch (Dec-2010) and iPhone 4s has a massive difference. The iPhone 4s music output is much lower when I connect to my HTS. However, the speaker sound output of iPhone 4s is much higher than my iPod touch. Investigating that

I PURCHASED A FACTORY UNLOCKED IPHONE 4S WITHIN THE US AND PAID $706 FOR IT AND WHEN I SHIPPED IT OUT INTERNATIONALLY TO MY FIANCE BACK AT HOME, SHE CONNECTED THE PHONE TO ITUNES AND SHE IS UNABLE TO ACTIVATE IT. IT DOES NOT GIVE THE MESSAGE "YOUR PHONE HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY UNLOCKED" AND THEREFORE IT SAYS NO SERVICE ON THE PHONE. THE OPERATING SYSTEM ON THE PHONE IS THE iOS 5.0.1. FURTHERMORE, I GOT IN CONTACT WITH A SENIOR ADVISOR FROM APPLE AND HE TOLD US TO RESTORE THE PHONE AND THAT MIGHT HELP. SHE TRIED RESTORING THE PHONE AND NOW WE CAME ACROSS ANOTHER PROBLEM WHICH GIVES HER THE ERROR 1630. PLEASE CAN ANYBODY HELP???
