Iphone 4s No Service Fix

I know alot of people are so angry about this problem and i am one of you but i managed to follow this issue inorder to find a solution and finally after alot of work, i managed to find the problems that cause it and found a solution for every case possible.

let me start with the problems that cause this issue.

CASE 1 (SIM Cards): Iphone 4s requires a specific sim card wiring technique different a little bit than before.

Solution 1: Simply contact your carrier and order the newest sim card available. ( 128K better than 64K ) and it case the new micro sim card did not work, order a regular sim card and cut it to the size of the micro sim.

CASE 2 (Carrier Network) : Iphone 4s has 2 antennas giving it the ability to connect to 2 signals at the same time causing the signal to shift from one hotspot to another without cutting the network. but to achieve that, the connection between the two spots must be perfectly synchronized and from the same type ( ex: 3g to 3g or edge to edge or gprs to gprs or 2g to 2g. any light mismatch will cause the phone to lose the signal and never be able to abtain it back ( No service will appear, and you are forced to restart your device or reset network setings ). and unforunately, we dont have the option in the iphone 4s to restrict our device to a specific network type unlike older devices. Im not sure that apple can fix this issue with an update, its the responsablity of the network companies to remove such errors from their infrastructures.

Solution 2: Order the 2g only sim card or a 3g only sim card, and it will work perfectly untill a better solution is found " but both solutions have advantages and disatvanteges. The 2g line will let you obtain a very good signal all over the country but you will not be able to connect to 3g network.

while the 3g line will let you obtain a good signal only in specific areas in the country but you will be able to use cellular data. or if you have a factory unlocked device, you can try to swith to a different carrier

Case 3 ( Iphone Software ): Sometimes, when you udate your device firmware or download any ios, there is a possibilty of an orror to occur without being noticed and that error will not also be noticed during the installation of the firmware, ending up on your device causing fialure.

Solution 3: 1- download latest itunes 10.5.1

2- download a fresh ios 5.0.1 ( from itunes not from iphone device )

3- Go to DFU mode, Open itunes and restore as new iphone (to avoid any remaining traces of previous corruption or error)

4- Go to Settings --> Phone --> Sim Pin and turn it OFF

5- Turn On airplane mode and wait 15 seconds

6- Turn OFF airplane mode

7- Go to Settings --> Carrier --> Automatic ( turn it off and select your network manually )

Case 4 (Iphone Hardware): some series of the 4s and specially the first serie delivered, had a problem in teir sim reader, and to help you more to identify this seire, simply go to Settings --> General --> About and check the model number if it starts with MD2 then you are not lucky and you phone may never work with your carrier

Solution 4: if you have a factory unlocked device, please consider changing the carrier and give it a try 90 % of the times it work, other than that, you must take your iphone back and order a replacement.

I will be happy to answer any question

Update your phone with the latest frimware.

If that doesn't help you try to talk your carrier and replace your sim card with a new one.

If the both above solutions doesn't work for you, you may replace your SIM tray with an iPhone 4.

Also, If possible can you give us your phone's serial number. So that we could check if it is 44th week's product. As you know some 44th week products are having issues.

I was so fedup with the same problem that a lot of users have, i.e. "Searching", "No Service" and "Invalid Sim" that I took the plunge and had my phone hacked by a specialist. So far so good. The iphone is behaving very well and has not lost the signal at all since the hacking. I was informed that it is advisable to have the phone replaced by Apple. If the phone stays stable for the next week or so, then I think we have the problem solved. South Africa has no Apple store or warrentee by Apple, so I had option but to hack it. Once hacked, Apple wont replace it for you people who have Apple stores in your country.

Your phone is a 45th one.

You may check by your self on http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html/

According to my knowledge, your phone shouldn't experience radio issues after trying the methods I have provided in my previous posts. If those problems continues to happen, I suggest you to visit Apple Store and replace your phone.

Sorry that I couldn't help you!

thanks for the solutions eddergram.

apple replaced my phone and i upgrade to 5.01 9A406 then i have invalid sim again and they replaced my phone again.

Now how can you tell if your sim is 64 or 128?

Also, when i insert my sim, i get on itunes: "Apple could not activate your phone, please try again later."

Maybe because my sim had a pin on it and from middle east country - so I was forced to start from the phone.

I disabled sim pin

Changed carrier choice to manual - chose Bell (best roaming charges)

Set up as new phone and syncedmy music / apps / contacts via icloud

I will attempt to request a 128 sim from local carrier Fido or from my home country carrier STC

Now the second phone that apple replaced to me is iOS 5.0

Should i keep it or upgrade to 5.01 9A406?

What features do i lose if i keep 5.0?

My phone details:

iPhone 4s White 64 gb

Model MD260LL

Modem firmware 1.0.11

I am in Canada but using roaming chip from STC

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

I think i found the solution:

Apple store in Canada replaced my phone twice.

So i have been through THREE iphone 4s's but i was still getting invalid sim.

Apple was saying the problem not with the phone since the sim didnt work on all 3 phones

STC said problem was not with their sim since it worked on other non apple phones.

STC never heard of 64k or 128k sim

(everyone blaming the other)

They are both right. The problem is with the iOS COMMUNICATING with the micro sims as eddergram mentioned in his early post. The phone's triband technology switching from 2g to 3g and back does not link up with the sim correctly and sometimes the update to 5.01 burnt the sim so you get invalid sim.

Just upgrade to 5.1 AND request a new sim card - your battery will be great & your sim will work fine.

Dont bother explaining to carrier the problem, just ask for latest generation 3g sim.

I got one from FIDO carrier in Canada and it is perfect / battery amazing with 5.1 ios

I requested also a new STC sim from my family to send to me and i will test it when i receive.

Hope this helps everyone.

Please see my iPhone 4S details;

  • Version: 5.1 (9B179)
  • Carrier: STC 12.0
  • Model: MD239AE
  • Serial Number: DNQH15VGDTD2
  • WI-FI:
  • ..
  • IMEI: 01 304200 700144 6
  • ICCID: 8996 6012 1003 3157 867
  • Modem Firmware: 2.0.10

Purchased Date: Feb 5, 2012

From: STC (SAUDI TELECOM CO.) "UNLOCKED".

Worked fine using sim card from STC 3G (IN SAUDI ARABIA)

Worked fine using sim card from China Unicom 2G (ROAMING IN SAUDI ARABIA)

Worked fine using sim card from STC 3G (ROAMING IN UAE, DUBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT)

Worked fine using sim card from STC 3G (ROAMING IN BEIJING, CHINA) on February 10, 2012

Worked fine using sim card from China Unicom (2G) from February 10, 2012 to March 6 or 7, 2012

Used iTunes to updates on 6 or 7th of March

Seems working fine

I received a phone call from a friend, while calling I noticed network signal dropping and the NO SERVICE appeared.

Visited Apple Store in Beijing and had a appointment with Genius Bar on March 10, 2012 at 11:10 AM and this is the outcome;

  1. Reset all
  2. Restore to factory setting
  3. Used their own sim card
  4. Turn on/off flight mode
  5. attempt to restore older ios, but won't accept

I was told that the Apple warranty does not cover iPhones purchased from countries out of China mainland and Hong Kong & Taiwan.

They suspect a hardware problem, but without any specifics.

I updated the device with the last ios released on 11 or 12 of March.

I replaced sim card from China Unicom with a newer sim card 2G and got a newer micro sim card (3G)

Both cards are not working and (NO SERVICE) still there after restore and reset all been done.

** All sim cards from STC, China Unicom were tested on other brands and worked.

** All sim cards also were tested on iPhone 4 (my wife's phone) and working fine.

Finally, I am about to run over this device or use a hammer and send the junk to Apple. I am an old man & can't afford to be stressed.

Before I do that, can anyone HELP or can APPLE find a solution!!!!!!😠😠😠
