can i stream video to apple tv from my mac?

Is it possible to stream video (push it) from my mac to my Apple TV? Also, I'm unable to see all my photos and videso from the Apple TV even though I have home sharing turned on. Why don't all videos and pics show up? I use iPhoto.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

You can only stream from your mac using iTunes. You can't 'push' video from a website for example.

For the home-sharing. Is your computer on and running iTunes? Are the videos in the correct format?

It needs to meet the compatibility of the ATV

  • H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
  • MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
  • Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

In iTunes you need to go to advanced - choose photos to share, if you haven't done so already.

Thanks for both the simple answer as well as the detailed response.

Also, the mystery of why only some photos showed up when viewing from Apple TV was that I had earlier only shared some photos from the "Advanced->Share Photos" screen having been confused by thinking that this sharing was for purposes of sharing with all devices. The small print at the top of the screen states that the selections are only for the purpose of sharing with Apple TV.

Hi vazandrew. Why only from iTunes? You can use the pre installed You Tube app on an iPad2 to stream video to Apple TV, but I noticed there is no such app availalbe for a MacBook Air in the MacBook App Store... right? Why? There is also no "Remote" app for the MacBook, when there is one for the iPad and iPhone, to control Apple TV. Seems like a great opportunity to allow the Mac to control Apple TV. The Apple TV silver physical remote, while small and simple, would be complimented nicely by a full feature remote (app).
