I created an Album specifically for syncing with my iPhone. Every time I add a new picture to that album, iPhoto creates a nested "untitled album" for each picture. Thus I have "untitled album," "untitled album 1," etc. All I want is a single Album where I can selectively add photos for moving to the iPhone. I'm using iPhoto 11, iPhone 4s, iTunes 10.5.

How are you adding Pictures to the Album? Sounds like you're dragging them to the Album heading and not the specific album

1 - albums can not be nested - albums hold only photos - folders can be nested - folders hold either albums or other folders
2 - exactly what is your work flow - how are you adding photos to your albums? (the correct way is to create an album and then drag photos from other places (events, photos view, other albums) to the album in the source pane on the left

Yes, indeed, when I drag a photo from the Photos or Events view, I am dropping it on the Album header. Where else would I drop it?

I think it is more accurate to say that the nesting is of the photos, but each additional photo is being named "untitled album", under the Album heading. When adding photos, I drag them from the Photos or Events view and drop them on the Album heading, as deduced by Terence. Not sure where else I would drag them to add them.

I am dragging the photo to the Album in the pane on the left. I drop the image when I am over the name of the Album, which is the header of the Album. Thus, every new photo dropped on the Album creates a sub-album called "untitled" (even though it's an album of only one photo). I don't see any other location to drag and drop to. Dropping onto the Album is dropping onto the name of the Album, no?

No, I never resolved it. I use Picasa now instead of iPhoto.
I have got exactly the same, from my experience if I drag an event to an existing album it will create a folder having the name of the event. If you drag the same way a single photo it will create an "untitled" new folder. Did not notice that before, I was thinking that 9.4 was the cause but as I can see you got it prior to this release.
I stumbled across a solution. I highlighted several photos first and then created a new folder and then dragged the photos into it...the photos stayed in the folder and no new sub-albums were created. The best part is from that point forward, the problem was solved. I can now create a new folder first and then drag random photos into it just like I used to do before this problem started. It must have been some type of setting that I changed without realizing it. I hope this helps!
Not so lucky as you are, even in an existing folder, dragging single photo or a full event into always create a new folder. I am using 9.4.1 update and I am pretty sure i was not working like this before the update to be compatible with Apreture. The other thing is that I am using either Aperture or iPhoto on my libraries and that can make it.

Up until a few months ago, I was able to drag and drop photos from anywhere to anywhere within iPhoto without any problem.
After one update or another (I assume), everything went to **** in a handbasket. I have the untitled folders problem and the additional problem of all my existing 6,000 photos being randomly scattered throughout all my previously chronologically orderd folder.
Tried Maribelle123's solution without results.
Anyone out there have any other suggestions (aside from trashing iPhoto completely)?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? If it doesn't then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with
Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I found the problem. Mine was doing the same thing because it was a "folder", not an album. Create a new album, highlight the folder and all sub-albums, click and drag to the album you just created, and then delete the folder. After this you should have no problems dragging new photos.
