The Safari Can't Find The Server - Error!

After updating my iPad and Mac OSX to the latest version, I am constantly getting 'The Safari Can't find the server' error on valid addresses. I have to refresh a few times to access the website.

I have gone through many posts and I gathere that it is not a Mac issue, but something to do with network settings - DHCP/Proxy. But I still could not figure out how to solve the problem.

If someone can guide/advise me then that would be a great help..

If you have the problem on both your iPad and your Mac, on the same network, then it's a network issue. On the Mac, open System Preferences > Network > Assist me > Diagnostics and follow the prompts. Results?

I'm having similar issues with Safari saying it can not find the server. Tumblr and Zooniverse sites are particularly troublesome, even with refreshing. I have checked the status of their servers and they are up and running without issues. I can access them eventually but have to close the current tab and reopen later. However, when I use Chrome or Firefox I can access the sites with no problem. It's not a local network problem as I can access the internet and those sites on my iPhone and all other sites. It appears to be an issue with Safai.

Safari Version 5.1.1 (7534.51.22)

Hi,

Nothing wrong with the connection. It is fine. I am connected to the network. Only certain addresses/websites are affected.

I am reading other posts - and most of them posts mention it is a DNS issue, but I know nothing about networking, so just getting confused.

And on my iPhone (3G), I don't have any problems. I can access the websites on iPhone, which are problamtic on MacBook and iPad.

Your iPhone is not connected to the same network as the Mac and iPad. I made a suggestion above. Did you take it?

I did take your suggestion. It said "Your Internet connection appears to be working properly", which is right.

How come my iPhone is not on the same network? It is.

As I have said, only certain websites gets the error, but eventually (after few refreshes or reopening the browser) does the trick.

I have the following website open on the browser: www.robetwalters.co.uk. Initally I got the error, but after refreshing it a few times I got through the homepage. Then, I tried to ping the website on Terminal and I get this:

7 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100.0% packet loss.

How is that possible?

It's possible because there's a problem with your Internet connection or your router. Your iPhone is on the cellular network.

No, my iPhone was on the home network. I had disabled the celluar network even though home Wi-Fi connection is a default connection.

Yep, It could be a router problem - will have to call up my broadband provider or will have to buy a new router. I was hoping I just would just have to change some settings..

My iPhone is connected to my router and able to connect to the websites, whereas Safari on my Mac can't. Firefox and Chrone connect without any issues. It's not a router problem, it's a browser problem. I'm in the UK on O2, where are you Antariiksh? Who is your ISP?

No. The information you're providing is contradictory. I don't know how to resolve the contradiction. I suggest you turn off two of the devices and test one at a time.
