I purchased a 500 GB Toshiba canvio external HD (USB 3.0 & 2.0), I was trying to get it reformat but it is not showing in the Disk Utilities. When I plugged in the device, the light turns on but it is not showing anywhere on my Mac, not even the the System Profiler nor Disk Utilities! Could anyone please kindly help?! Many Thanks ^^

Sounds like it was probably defective right out of the box if it won't even show up in Disk Utility.
Let me guess... you are running Lion? It looks like there is bug in Lion that prevents the Canvio drives to be mounted, even though it works in Snow Leopard. Here is a thread with more details:

There seem to be a bunch of posts on this. I'm gonna guess your running a fairly new MBP. It seems the Canvio 3.0 works find on older MBPs. (Works on my 2009 running Lion.) I understand Toshiba has put in a fix for this but some older stock in the stores don't include it. A workaround is to put the Canvio 3.0 on a powered hub if you have one. Also Toshiba will replace it free with a newer model that will work. You should call Toshiba support if you haven't yet.

mjq 55 probably is on the right track. I have seen on other posts that the MBP simply does not provide enough power to the Canvio. In addition to powered hub as suggested, a 'Y' connector with two USB connections to the MBP may also solve the problem.
