I can't burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro anymore, and unfortunately the computer has a bit of physical damage, so Apple won't fix it for free. (The physical damage occurred long before the DVD drive stopped working though). How much will it cost (approximately) to get my DVD drive fixed?

Well yeah, but does anybody know how much these repairs cost generally? I'm not looking for an exact number, just a ballpark figure to see if it's even worth bringing in.
I think mine cost between $300 and $400 to replace the Superdrive, it was under AppleCare though.

Just a thought - before you take it in or replace it - have you tried cleaning the drive?
(I mean with one of those drive cleaning disks you can buy most anywhere.)

If CT's suggestion doe not work, check out the OWC website. They sell Superdrives and they can be user installed (fumble fingers me has done it). The cost of the drive was about $90.
