ipad will not reset.....how do I fix this?

I cannot seem to reset my Ipad. I have had some difficulty before but eventually it will reset. This time, not happening. I get the apple and then hold down both the sleep and on/off forever but nothing happens. The apple goes off, then comes back, but the iPad does not reset. I tried plugging it in and resetting....didn't work. Then I got the notice to plug into the computer....I assume this means a restore which I don't want to do. Any suggestions as to how to get this thing to reset? If I do have to restore, what shape is my iPad left in?

You said that when you get the Apple you hold the sleep/wake button down? Shouldn't it be that once the Apple appears you just wait and it comes alive ?

I don't know....I thought you were supposed to hold down the two biuttons when the apple appearaed but maybe not. i'll try your suggestion. Thanks.

iPad Reset:

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

Oh my gosh, you are right! It worked. No wonder I have so much trouble resetting it.....my iPod the same way. I always thought this method seemed a bit strange but I read the directions a few times and they were not clearn....at least not to me. Thanks so much!

I am having a reset problem too. When I reset my IPAD, the graphics on my screen were all in oversize. The graphics are not sharp, they are fuzzy. I can't access any apps. I tried your method of reset, and I get the Apple logo but then I get my wallpaper graphic in oversize.
