icloud is deleting my messages in trash. Under preferences it says trash deleted after 30 days, is there a way to change this?

Will the trashed emails not be deleted if you go under:

mail/preferences/accouns/icloud/mailbox behaviors and under trash deselect the box that says: store deleted messages on the server

That way, your deleted emails are not put on the server and they stay on the mac and you set it up to never deleted emails in the trash.

I just set this up today.... I hope this works....I'll know in a few days. Got my fingers crossed!

Thanks for the advice. I could do that but not really what im looking for as i want to use the cloud to store all my emails (even deleted) and not just on my mac. I used to do this on mobileme and gmail does same...I delete all mails once ive read but sometimes you want to go back and search and I want to be able to do this on cloud...would have thought that it should be pretty easy and standard to do...any other suggestions????

In the mean time, i created a new folder called Archive and i set a rule on mail that as soon as mail downloads an email it places a copy in Archive - that in turn syncs with Archive file which is on the cloud. PROBLEM with that is it only works if my comes to mac. ie. if i download email on ipad/ iphone or cloud the rule doesnt apply and when i delete it gets lost...

Strange that what im trying to do is so complicated on icloud???

Interesting. That is different from what I was experiencing, where mine were being deleted after 7 days.

So one work-around would be to change your preferences so that when a message was deleted it was moved to a different folder ("Trashed" or something like that). iCloud wouldn't know anything about the change, and it would never be deleted. You could make this change on all of your iOS devices so that everything was still synchronized.

Not a satisfying solution, since you still have the same unhappiness about Apple taking away choices we ought to have, but it would at least work.

this page http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2652 gives me the impression that we can not at this time change that grayed out setting.

Will have to get accustomed to using the 'archive' button, instead of just hitting 'delete' on my keyboard/phone. 😟

Poorly-made move, Apple, adding a mailbox i didn't need, then forcing me to abandon the one i had some control over.
