Hi all,
I have just been given a replacement for my new iPhone and came home to restore it from my iCloud backup. It lets me connect to my network, log in, view my back ups and select one. But after about 30 seconds, a message appears saying "Cannot Restore backup". I have tried resetting the phone and also redone the steps dozens of times but nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated!

Try disabling your antivirus and firewall.

A lot of antivirus and firewall products block any unrecognized downloads. I was dead serious when I said disable your antivirus and firewall. ESPECIALLY Kaspersky and Zone Alarm.
Well thank you for your suggestion. Perhaps I should explain. The backup is from iCloud, which must be downloaded through the phone. I've tried connecting to several different networks to no avail.
An update, if I create a new backup then I can reset the device and restore using the new backup. However, the old one (which is extremely important) is still unavailable.
Now I feel really stupid. You said that in the first post. Don't know what I was thinking.
I have the same problem with iCloud as it says "cannot restore backup". I've tried turning off my firewall and all but iCloud still gives me the same message. Any advice?
I have the same problem with an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1, I'm trying to restore my iPhone with a backup made with iCloud (when I made the backup 2 weeks ago I had the same iOS version, 5.1.1).
The error message is: "Cannot restore backup" which is NOT listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4036

I was having the same problem and read all these discussion forums and found nothing a long with nothing in the trouble shooting on apple help. What I finally did was select the backup I needed again and then set it directly next to my wireless router and it worked. Which was weird because I have a fast broadband wireless internet connection and a nice Cisco Router.
This happened to me the first 3 times I tried. It eventually "just worked". What a mess iCloud is...
I did what SJMPDX did and it freaking worked. Same deal super fast router with stable connection. icrap er cloud is crapola. I wish apple would make things just slightly more comlicated so that there cannot be a slight mis alignment of the earth, stars and the center of the galaxy. JEEZ this was making me so freakin angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SJMPDX! You saved my iPhone 5's life......

I have 3 backup's available to me. All 3 Stop restoring at the same spot in the restore process.
I have a great connection/router... Have been trying for 2 day, 20+ tries and just not getting the back up.
Is there anyway to get a the info from icloud to my new Mac and restore it that way?
