Q: ...not supported on this system

I have an eMac vers. 10.4.11 and it seems like nothing is compatible with it.  My iPod Touch (REALLY??), I can't upgrade iTunes, I can't install Mono, I can't install a DVDCreator. What the ****?  I keep getting the erro message "You cannot open the application--insert application here--because it is not supported on this system."  Is there a way to rectify this or am I f*&%ed?  And for those of you that want to comment "Easy fix.  Get a new computer." My answer is "buy me one." For those of you with constsructive answers, thank you in advance.

Hello, most Apps no longer support 10.4.11, many no longer support PPC Macs, & the latest DVD Creator is one of those...

You can probably upgrade your OS 10 Leopard 10.5.

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).

If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:

    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD

    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD

MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

MB022Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update

You do not post the CPU speed of your eMac, but you will have to work around the 867 Mhz CPU minimum requirement if youe eMac is one of the 800 Mhz CPU variety.

If you're successful in getting a retai OS X 10.5 Leopard set on DVD,my solution was a little more involved.

The HD on my parents' Mac went bad (too many bad sectors).

So, I was able to purchase on external Firewire hard drive, install OS X 10.5 Leopard on it and I am able to run

the eMAc from that that drive.

It runs, somewhat slower from the external drive (maybe just running slower than OS X 10.4 Tiger because it doesn't quite meet the minimum spec), but it runs well enough and now my Mom( with the latest, greatest iTunes) can sync and backup all of her iDevices on her older eMAc. She wasn't able to do so at an earlier date.

Just adding another alternative to explore.

That's why I decided to post

    Hope all goes well
