Candy of Apple Support gave me the straight scoop for getting the right iCloud account on an iPad or iPhone.


Go to Settings and select iCloud.


At the bottom of the screen or lower select "Delete Account ".


Ask it to save iCloud data to device.


Sign in again with the correct Apple ID.

If you wind up with lots of duplication, I recommend Calendar Cleaner and Contact Cleaner from Spanning Sync, Inc.
