Is the replacement ipad the new (100%) ipad or just the refurbished ipad?

A lot depends on what the Apple Retail store has in stock...usually a refurbished unit, which will have a new battery, new case, replacement of any parts that were bad, and thorough check out by the factory techs.

You will have to talk with the dealer person and see if they can give you a choice of color...again, depends on what they have in stock.

No, it is not common for a user to be able to change color when having an iPad replaced under warranty. Generally it's not possible at all.

Yes, Apple will send you the same model with the same specifications as the iPad you originally purchased. The replacement iPad will be new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability.

I assume or equivalent could mean refurbished.

You are not bound or required to accept the deal of $99 for a refurbished iPad identical to the one you have. You can always purchase a new iPad or one from the refurbished section of the Apple Store.
