ITunes Match - Loca Storage Space - Question!

Everytime you play a song using Itunes Match/ICloud on an IPhone or IPad -- it downloads it to the local hard drive storage on that device.

Is there a way to automatically delete it from the device after playing it? If we play a lot of music on our devices using the service, won't they eventually fill up with music leaving less space for other things such as apps? It seems like the only way to clean up the storage is to go song by song on the device and swipe the song to delete it, but this is a horrible process. I created a smart playlist to show recently played songs thinking this will help me with this process so I could do a cleanup once a week, but you can't even delete a song from the device via a playlist, you have to go to the general song list which takes forever to scroll up and down if you have 10,000+ songs.

Am I missing something here or is this a ridiculous process that partially defeats the purpose of the service?

Apple has actually already thought of this. As you fill up the space on your iPhone, and if it requires more, the Music app will delete older downloaded songs as needed. However this will only happen within the Music app. It won't, for example, automatically delete music if you need more space to take photos. You'll get an alert pop-up telling you you need to delete something.
