Have you tried updating the firmware? Most HP printers need a firmware update in order to use AirPrint. Check the HP support page to see if there are updates for your printer.
BTW, as an aside, you should consider adding the HP Home and Biz printing app to your iPad. This app lets you choose paper types, sizes, margins, etc., that AirPrint will not let you do. It's in the App store. I use mine a lot, and lets you print with a 3G connection too.

Thanks for replying Tgara. I've been through the various forums and have gone through the various suggestions. I'm now trying to find someone that actually does have Airprint working with an HP ENVY - do you?

When you try to AirPrint, are you able to find your printer when it says "Select Printer"?
On the home screen of your HP Envy printer:
- Select the wrench icon on the top right.
- Select Web Services.
- Select Product Updates.
- Select Check for Product Updates.
- If there are updates available, install them, then follow steps 1-4 again until you receive the message "You have the most current updates installed."
On your iPad:
- Launch the Settings app.
- Go to the General section.
- It is preferable for Bluetooth to be off.
If you are able to find the printer when trying to print:
- Press the home button on your iPad two times to bring up your multitasking section.
- If the app "Print Center" is available, remove all the print jobs stuck in there.

HP has an Envy 100 - D410 and an Envy 110 - D411 both of which are AirPrint printers.
If you have one of these printers and everything else looks like it should work then you'll want to make sure your router can pass Bonjour packets. What make and model router are you using?

Tried all the above - I suspect it may be the router, rbi. I now have a new iMac connected to the printer with a cable and that prints fine. Quite annoying that the ENVY won't work in AirPrint. I'll just have to keep emailing stuff.

Thanks snagger68, AirPrint still doesn't work for me - even with BlueTooth off. I installed HP's home&biz app and that works fine, but BlueTooth has to be off. Annoying because I use a Logitech keyboard with my iPad. However, for those times that I don't want to print from my iMac, it's all good.
I'm still disappointed that AirPrint doesn't work the way it's presented.

I believe your modem is branded by Huawei, if I am researching correctly. You can view the manual I referenced by clicking the link below.
If you get into the User Interface of your router, often times by entering your router's IP address in the address bar of an internet browser, you can verify some settings.
If you log into the interface and go to the Advanced Setup, then to the LAN section, is IGMP Snooping on or off? As far as switching that setting for testing, I cannot recommend that to be a fix, some network administrators leave that off, others leave it on, depending on their network and security needs.

That router seems to have a problem with Bonjour (mdns) which is what AirPrint uses to find printers. There's an incomplete thread here:

Sid, i dont think you have a router problem. The 4O0a is not on the list of supported printers. No airprint. Here is the list.
Boujour support is not going to help you.

I think it's OK, it is the ENVY100 - D410.
