Q: itunes chopping off end of songs now that i signed up for match

Signed up for itunes match with 2011 imac, latest updates of itunes and lion on mac and latest update on ipad 2.

Noticed during playback on ipad2 that LOTS of songs are cut off at the end...they end 15 - 20 seconds early, abruptly...not sure why?

Please help, thank you in response!

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1, 2011 imac, itunes match

Add me to the list of folks with iTunes Match prematurely stopping songs and/or weirdly adding other songs to the end of the song that has prematurely stopped playing on my iOS device (an iPhone 4S). This does not seem to be occuring on non-iOS devices. My Mac with the originally ripped file and another Mac streaming from the iTunes Match Cloud does not seem to be exhibiting this behavior.

I tried turning off iTunes Match on my iOS device and then manually deleting the offending song. The turned iTunes Match back on. The song still ends prematurely but now, instead of iOS Music taking other songs onto the prematurely stopped track, it just produces minutes of dead air.

Will report back when I learn more but this is unacceptable for a paid product.

So far the "problem song" is Alive and Kicking by Simple Minds. The song (this version is 5:26 minutes long) plays well using iTunes Match / iCloud on two MacBook Pro's running 10.7.3 and iTunes v. 10.6.1. One of the MBP's is streaming from iCloud and the other has a matched downloaded copy of the song that plays perfectly.

However, on my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1 with iTunes Match enabled, Alive and Kicking dies at 2:41 minutes, with the rest of the song playing just dead air.

This occurs at home on my WiFi network, at work on that WiFi network and on a client's WiFi network -- so it's not a networking issue.

This problem has gone on for months. I've posted in this thread already, but here's something new to add. I called Apple and spent hours on the phone with them trying all sorts of different things. When they couldn't solve the problem they had the audicity to tell me that iTunes Match is a beta product and that all I can do is sync the old fashioned way on my iPhone and iPad. Do what?? I paid for it, and I don't recall any notices about the service being in beta.

I'm very upset. There's a saying in sales that a happy customer might tell two or three people about a good product -- an unhappy customer tells everyone they know about a bad product. I'm trying to give Apple a fair shake by saying that they make some really great products, but this is not one of them. Dare I say: the overall quality of Match may be worse than MobileMe.

This is new. It seems to be spreading -- I'd say a third of my library now does it. Anyone else have the problem growing?

Quite a bit of my library is starting to fall victim to this also.  I never had an Itunes issue, then my Mac crashed and I had to transfer everything over to my laptop. I started noticing while listening to my Ipod that songs that previously played fine started ending early.   I signed up for icloud just to ensure that I would still have all my music, besides backing it up (I'm paranoid).  My songs started cutting out before I signed up for iTunes Match though.  I have uninstalled itunes on my computer and reinstalled my music from my back up and that didn't solve the problem.  It's getting really frustrating and I am sick and tired of paying for music that doesn't work.  I just purchased an entire albumn from itunes two days ago and 3 of the songs don't play until the end.  Apple takes your money and could care less about their customers and the fact that they are getting 1/2 played songs for the money they spend.

This is now happening to me as well. I've never noticed it before about a week ago. I'll start by saying I've been away since the beginning of the year so only recently used iTunes and updated it. I downloaded 'Danger Zone'  a week ago and it was really obviously that it continually stopped exactly 20s from the end. Now new album/songs that I downloaded today can stop anywhere up to 9min from the end of 13min track. There doesn't seem to be anything I do to stop it.

    I'm currently using iTunes 10.6.1.7.

Weird thing is. The 13 min originally played through to about 12min into the track. Now it only goes about 3min into it. Same things happens when I open the track in MediaPlayer, Quick Time, NeroMediaHub which suggests to me that the file is corrupt. The only difference being that iTunes skips immediately to the next track while the other programs play the nothingness or distortion at the end. But why could I initially listen to 12min of the 13min track but now only 3min??? Strangeness. Looks like I won't be buying anything through iTunes store for a long while (I can't waste my money or bandwidth on stuff I may need to download again). My brother has been at me to use MediaMonkey for years. It might be just time to try it. I love my music too much and I'm not about to go through my 13500+ tracks to find where the problems is. Nor am I about to reburn my extensive CD collection or redownload stuff on iTunes that downloaded just fine before.

I have this problem too, the song cuts off about 1 minute in and has been doing it since i about early march. I've talked to Apple about letting me redownload these songs and have let me, unfortunately this hasn't worked. They really need to fix this!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has started having this problem... but what an absolute screamer of a problem by Apple. May I please add my voice to the many asking for a fix for this very soon, please.

I should add that I do not get any of my mp3s from the apple store - they are all legally downloaded from elsewhere or ripped from CDs that I own. I do not use iTunes Match. My version of itunes is up to date.

I have also noticed that when I tried to replace a Midlake album that had started to do this, I ripped the CD again using XLD to create the mp3 files. All the tracks were working fine (with itunes remembering who was the composer, album artist etc) until I dragged in the artwork - the ends of tracks started getting cut off again and in one case some Metallica was spliced onto the end - very random!

Is this an issue with artwork maybe?

I too am victim to this unfortunate bug. I have even tried to remove completely the album, resync... And as others have mentioned it is spreading. I appreciate the influence and innovation Apple has contributed, but this is damaging to your brand recognition of the problem will at least ease some of our minds.

Personally, my only two concerns right now is itunes match syncing play counts and this problem because it negatively affects the integrity and quality of my listening experience. Please help us Apple!

I am having this same issue also and know of two others in my family who are also reporting the same concern. I unloaded all my music and reimported it to iTunes then deleted music on iPhone and reinstalled all my music. For the songs that I listen to ofter, it seems that the music is stopping again at the same place. I've looked at all the settings and can find nothing amiss. This is baffling. I can't believe that this is not a known problem with the Apple software.

No doubt this is a HUGE problem.  I'm not so much a "multi device" or "streaming" from the cloud guy.  I heard about the "match" on a major radio tech show- and thought, "You know, for $25 bucks- it's a deal to get all 256k ACC, DRM removed "new" versions of my music".  WELL- I guess Apple left out the little part in the fine print- WARNING, we may ROYALLY JACK UP your music library.  So, I start doing the "delete" and "upload" and here come my "new", nice 256 ACC versions of songs.  I listen to a few and NO DOUBT- the 256 ACC is sweet sounding compared to some of my old 128K Mpeg rips and stuff.  So, I start doing my entire library.  First "disappointment" is the failure to match VERY COMMON pop/rock songs that  I know are in the Itunes store- but,  thought no-biggie, I got most "matches" (85% or better) probably of 3000 plus songs.  So, then I start listening to a few of my real favorite tunes (I'm on a Macbook running Windows, split in bootcamp and running latest ITunes and playing the songs from there- have not even tried yet to move them to my Ipod classic) and BAMM- I'm about half way through one of my favorite songs, about a 5 minute rock tune- and it just CUTS and starts playing the next song.  I'm like- WHAT THE blank?  So, I start randomly checking some of the other tunes that have completed download to my computer so far as 256 ACC- and found another one.  The only "solution" I can come up with so fr- is I'm going to MANUALLY HAVE TO GO THROUGH EVERY SONG in Itunes- hit play, then hit the slider bar at the top to within 15 seconds or so of the end of song- if it's still playing you know that song is "good".  I can't beleive I'm going to have to take HOURS to check every tune- but I don't know what else to do?   And I know a lot of you have WAY more than my 3000 tunes- I did a few hundred "checks" so far- I figure an hour or so each night- and I can check all 3000 in probably a week - writing down the "bad" one- then, I'll have to attempt to delete those out and either re-try an Apple download- which worked on one so far, or use my back-up original copy.  I figure for the MASSIVE amount of time this will cost me- Apple owes me my $25 back at a minimum.  NO WAY they don't know this is a problem.  STANDARD software "release" protocol- is to give it to a "BREAK IT TEAM" who tries every thing they know to break and find bugs in the software prior to release- they would've found this in about TEN SECONDS- as we all did.  ***** BIG TIME.  Unexcusable.  I can probably handle manually checking 3000 or so songs- I don't know what some poor dude with 15000 songs is going to do?  As many of you describe- you're now scared to deatht that this "thing" has JACKED UP a music library that took you YEARS to get "right" and clean- and now may be randomly full of TOTAL JUNK "half-play" songs.  What are you supposed to do- wait till you play all your songs and just "discover" at random every once in a while that one is jacked up?  Apple this is B A D, BAD.

    SONGS BEING CUT OFF EARLY!!!

I found the solution with the help of three workers at my local Apple Store.  You won't like it, but it works!  First, understand this is only happening with my songs purchased from the Itunes Apple store.  (Not every song but alot.)  Songs I put directly into my library from CD's are not corrupted.  Second, the corruption occured after I did an Apple update in February.

    Solution:

1.)  Identify all your corrupted songs and delete them from your computer.  Sorry!  You can speed up this process by iIdentifying all your purchased songs from Itune store:  Item #4 below helps you to do this.

2.)  Go to Itune store and sign in.  On black bar accross top click on Music.

3.)  On right hand side click on Purchased.

4.)  On right hand side click "All" which will show you all songs you have bought. Next, click all songs to the left.  Now next to the "All" is "Not On This Computer" click this which will show you all songs you deleted in step #1.

5.)  Stay clicked on "Not on this Computer" and then click down in the right corner "download all."   This will redownload only the corrupted songs you deleted from your computer. (You will not be charged now or ever to redownload music you have purchased in the past.)

6.)  Resync your devise and music is fine.

Word of caution:  I don't know if downloading the new Apple update will corrupt my music again!  If anyone finds out please let us all know. Hope this helps everyone.
