My made DVD's won't play on bluray players

Hello Guys

I have made some DVD's and they play fine on DVD players and Mac computers but won't play properly on a PC and won't play at all in a Bluray player.

My workflow:

SD Footage captured into FCP

Edited with correct sequence settings (matching the clips)

Exported using quicktime, current settings, self made movie

Open quicktime movie with compressor

Drag on DVD 90 mins best and submit

Drop the two compressed files into DVDSP

Make a menu and burn to disc using default settings

Verbatim -R Disc

The disc works beautifully on all DVD players and mac computers but it stutters and freezes on a PC (windows media player) and in a bluray player it just says 'no disc'

Any ideas why they won't work on the PC and in the bluray player?

Any help would be fab?

Hi

Did You set down burn speed to x4 ? Slower = Less burn errors. BD-players are more picky about this.

Free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk > 25Gb - I let it be at least 25Gb for SD-video material.

Other than the same diameter disk, Blu-ray and DVD have nothing in common. To play a DVD, you need a DVD player.

Don't use Windows Media Player. It is a piece of junk. There is a reason most PCs ship with third party DVD playback software.

The burn speed was the default, when I get home I shall check what that is, I burnt it out of DVDSP so whatever the default burn speed on there is what it will be.

I didn't understand your second comment, do i need to have 25gb of free space when burning DVD's, I have plenty of space on my hard drive so that can't be the problem?

I don't use PC's it is a friend of mine who I made the DVD for, he has family footage from his camcorder which is SD but he owns a PC and a bluray player so I need to make a DVD that will play on his PC and on his bluray player. He is using WMP, what should I tell him to download...quicktime (although that is mac) or maybe VLC?

You can not make a Blu-ray playable disk with DVDSP. As noted above - DVDs and Blu-rays are completely different animals.

To generate a Blu-ray disk, you'll need a Blu-ray burner. You will also need to spend some time reading up on the the steps to create it.

No I'm not trying to make a blu ray disc, I am making a DVD. But I need the DVD to work on his bluray, his bluray player is capable of playing and DVD's and plays other burnt DVD's it just won't play my one

Most all Blu-ray players will play DVDs just fine. However, there are a few gaming consoles with Blu-ray drives that have been known to be picky about playing burned (rather than replicated) DVD discs. Find out which brand and model of Blu-ray player your client has and then download the user's manual for that model to find out specifically which formats the player is compatible with. In most manuals, a compatibility chart is usually listed in the first few pages.

As for the Windows playback problem; as mentioned before, Windows Media Player is horrible for playing DVDs ... especially, burned discs. Have him download and install Cyberlink's PowerDVD application.

So I have been scouring these forums for similar problems and trying the suggestions and I have the answer woohoo, it was on this thread:

When I was burning the disc it was saying ' a video_ts directory already exists and I was hitting reuse instead of delete and I hadn't assigned the build to the project folder it was set to default which meant it was saved in library/cache. So I deleted the stuff in the video_ts folder in cache and then went to burn the disc again, I saved the files to the project folder and I hit delete instead of reuse when the pop up box came up and now the DVD is playing in the bluray machine....Problem Solved.

I don't understand why this makes a difference and why the disc played on DVD and mac and not bluray before but by doing this it now works on everything YEY
