TC 2nd generation 3TB WD Caviar green HD does not spin down

Dear All,

I have upgraded my TC 2nd generation with a 3TB Western Digital HDD. I notice the drive tries to spin down but immediately spins up again after about 5 minitues. Did anybody find a remedy on this ? It was tested with no cables connected and wifi off as wel at the same time; same problem.

Thanks for your advice !

I only look like a stingray.. no French in me!! LOL!

It is a long story.

I am not sure.. but perhaps you can fix the 3TB.. there is not much experience out there.. but in general people have run into issues.

Read around.. for some reason, the series 1 has less issues than series 2 but I cannot see the forum reference.

You might be able to do something.

You will need to stick the drive onto a pc and run the utilities from WD, maybe you can reset the drive behaviour.

The 2TB green WD is fine.. but not the advanced geometry.

See articles about AF

So the WD ordinary green forget the number.

Most 7200 are fine.. the power saving and temp reduction for green drives is neglible.

But Hitachi drives which work fine run hot.. don't buy them.

Seagate or Samsung should be fine. .drives are in short supply especially as people avoid the AF drives. They tend to be left on the shelves.

Before you buy just google for success stories.
