I am not sure.. but perhaps you can fix the 3TB.. there is not much experience out there.. but in general people have run into issues.
Read around.. for some reason, the series 1 has less issues than series 2 but I cannot see the forum reference.

You will need to stick the drive onto a pc and run the utilities from WD, maybe you can reset the drive behaviour.
The 2TB green WD is fine.. but not the advanced geometry.

So the WD ordinary green forget the number.
Most 7200 are fine.. the power saving and temp reduction for green drives is neglible.
But Hitachi drives which work fine run hot.. don't buy them.
Seagate or Samsung should be fine. .drives are in short supply especially as people avoid the AF drives. They tend to be left on the shelves.
Before you buy just google for success stories.
