Text Tone won't sound on iPhone 4S

Just noticed this happening today, but when I receive a text, the tone won't sound. All the other audio works (games, wooshing back and forth text sounds when in the keyboard view)

Does anyone know what this is all about?

Thanks!

I just started experiencing this in the past day or two. I noticed as my phone was quiet for several hours. When I turned it on I had quite a few missed texts. It seems to alert me to emails and other application-specific alerts, but not text. I've also noticed text messages sent via Google Voice (which I use) do not produce an alert. Not sure if it's related.

I solved my (no text tones) issue by going into - Settings>>Do Not Disturb - and turned it OFF. Don't ask me why all of a sudden, I lost my text tones, but I did. I had the Do Not Disturb switch in the "on" position since I first got the (IPhone 4) so darned if I know what changed...just know that when I turned that feature OFF - Voila...text tones again.

I was getting SO frustrated because I couldn't hear my text tones. Sound with phone calls and whatnot worked, but for whatever reason the text tone wouldn't work - although the vibrate did. I realized that my vehicle is parked right outside my room window and the phone connected to my bluetooth device in the vehicle. So, make sure that you device isn't connecting to a bluetooth device (for sound or even FM transmitting) because that may save you some headache and hassle - as I was JUST about to restore my phone. 🙂
