Photos show up as grey, blurry, and in multiples

When looking at my photo album on my iPhone, my pictures are grey, in multiples, and are blurry when selected. This started when I rebooted after it froze when taking a picture. I have rebooted and closed the app multiple times and nothing changes. When plugged into my Mac, my iPhone shows that there are no photos and the photos will not show up in iphoto or the preview application. Has anyone come across this problem or know how I can fix it? I would rather not update or restore my phone until I can at least copy the pictures so I know I will not lose them. Please help!
