New 27" iMac Assembled in America?

The box my new iMac came in had a sticker that said "Assembled in America".

Does that mean that this iMac was made in the US or was it just the actual box that was "Assembled in America".

I was under the impression that Apple made all of there products in China.

I tried using that tool and it did say this about the factory:

Factory: D2 (Refurbished ?)

However, this was purchased from B&H Photo as a new system and was not sold as refurbished.

I took a second look at the label on the iMac box and it clearly states that the computer was assembled in the USA (see photo below)

Is there a way to find out if this iMac is a refurbushed system? Wouldn't it say it somewhere?

Thanks.

Al new iMacs are manufactured overseas in China currently. However if you purchased a refurbished iMac from Apple they ship from the US, I have no idea if the refurbishing is done in the US or not. You can use:

http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

to input your SN and that will tell you where the machine was made. This site hasn't been updated in awhile so I'm not positive it will work for your machine but it doesn't hurt to try.

I bought a refurb iMac 27 directly from Apple and it arrived yesterday--the box is still sitting ont eh living room. The sticker is basically the same except for two things:

1) the computer description line begins with "RFB" in front of "iMac 27"

and

2) It's clearly marked "Computer assembled in China" at the bottom.

As we are all end users here like you, I doubt if you can get a definitive answer from this rowdy crowd. If this is a real concern to you, I suggest you call Apple directly. I'm sure Apple would want to know if B&H is selling refurbs as new.

could it be if you choose too many custom vs. the base model they asm them in usa

Could very well the case. I know that was how it worked in 2004 with G4 MDD towers. My son's was bought "box stock" MDD from an Apple retail Store and the serial number shows it as Chinese (or Taiwanese--certainly not a US code). Mine was bought as a web "build to order" and the SN code shows US production.

This thread is already very old but because I had the same question when I purchased my BTO iMac in May 2016, I thought I would post my information here. According to the shipping information on the waybill from DHL, my iMac originated in Cork, Ireland, and then was shipped to Shannon, then Leipzig, then to Dubai before being delivered to me. The brown packaging has a sticker that clearly says "Country of origin: CHINA". Mmm. China > Cork > final destination? Did not make any sense. But the link given in this thread gave me the answer. Entering the serial number, the result shows Factory: DG (Cork, Ireland). Somehow knowing that my iMac was assembled in Ireland instead of China makes me more comfortable.
