Jake, did you Repair Permissions & reboot after all was installed?

Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

  • Pro Tools HD 7.4.1, 7.4.2, or Pro Tools HD 8 is required for Leopard
  • Pro Tools 7.4.2 requires Mac OS X 10.5.3 or 10.5.4, and is not compatible with earlier versions of Leopard (not tested with 10.5.5 or higher)
  • Pro Tools 8.0 requires Mac OS X 10.5.5, 10.5.6, 10.5.7, or 10.5.8, and is not compatible with earlier versions of Leopard

Hmmm, I also can't tell if it really is supposed to run on PPC Macs...

IMPORTANT NOTE: To run Pro Tools specific hardware is required!
Please check the compatibility of your computer system before you buy your Pro Tools software:http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=353265

Platform: Qualified computers running Windows Vista (32-bit), Windows XP SP2, or Mac OS X 10.5/10.6 (Intel-based Macs only); Pro Tools 8.0.3 required for Mac OS X Snow Leopard support and public beta support for Windows 7.

Not yet because the computer just keeps loading to the apple and gear and the fans speed up then it tells me i need to hold the power button for a couple of seconds, and restart. I did it and it did the same thing over and over!!!!!!! Gah! This mac is making beyond frustrated i just want pro tools to run on my mac with no problems.

So, a bigger problem now!???

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

3. Click the First Aid tab.

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive

Reboot, test again.

If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

I don't see anywhere any info to indicate that your software is compatible with PPC Macs.

ALL info available is contrary to your claims.

Likely the issue is the M-Powered edition or the version contained within.

What, exactly, is the version of the software that you installed?

The reason that I ask is that Pro Tools 8.0.1 is the LAST version to support PPC:

Please Note: Pro Tools 8.0.1 software will be the last version of Pro Tools to support some retired products:

  • Original Mbox
  • Expansion|HD Chassis
  • Macintosh PowerPC Computers

IF your software installer is not too late a version, it may be the way that the software was updated.

The update is 8.0.1, but what is the version of the original installer?

Along with the possible issue of original install version, there is a known issue from way back regarding the OS version used.

It is often recommended (was recommended) in the Pro Tools user groups to install PT 8 in OS X 10.5.5 or 10.5.6.

Those are the certified OS versions.

Versions earlier and later are known to have various issues.
