Last night I backed up my iphone after having not done it for several months. Now today after my phones battery had run dry, upon connecting it to my computer for a battery powerup, my lock screen rotates between the normal screen and a "sad iphone" by geoff stearns. Is there a way out of this? I cannot access my phone at all and have tried several hard reboots.

It's jailbroken, isn't it?
Yes it is. I moved here to Germany with my AT&T iphone, thinking the Apple people could transfer me to a phone carrier here, but they don't do this. It was either donate my fully working phone to Goodwill or jailbreak it and keep using it.
Unfortunately, you can't get help here. Discussing jailbroken devices is forbidden by the terms of use. It's entirely possible that your phone is now a paperweight. Google reveals some solutions that may or may not work for you.
