I just came across this thread and would like to reiterate what TMGieske has said. POSLavu is a fantasic bit of software that, in conjunction with iPad features, offers a complete, all-in-one solution. Not only does it operate as a till, allowing access to real time data from any number of sites, but also allows you to control your audio, lighting, heating and security through a single device, from anywhere with an internet connection.

If you are looking for an iPad point of sale for a small restaurants or coffee shop, you should check out Lavu Lite. They are the only Free iPad point of saleon the market that is geared towards restaurants, with all the features you need. It is really intuitive and takes about 2 minutes to get the account set up, including credit card processing and you can start using it right away! I hope this helps.

Except it still has a monthly cost of $39 so dosnt really meet requirements from my original post.

In the end due to a complete lack of products that met my need I ended up using Unicenta/openbravo on an old XP PC and a VNC to the Ipad.

Our software is a cloud based point of sale solution on iPad called posPad. There are options for integration with Sage Line 50 and our full EPOS System myPOS7, Administration is done via posportal.co.uk e.g. Reporting and Product admin.
