Mail Dated 12/31/69?

While deleting mail from my 4th gen iPod touch, I will sometimes encounter a blank message, "no content," dated 12/31/69. I try to delete it, and all freezes. I back out of Mail, and then can get to other messages.

Is this error occurring because the original message might have been deleted (by me) on its POP server?

Not a "critical" problem ... just a mystery to me.
