When running a virus/malware scan using VirusBarrier X6, it takes a long time to work through ".gz" and ".pcf.gz" files. What are they, and can I delete them without harming my system's functions?

they are compressed files. like a rar or zip. usually from internet cache of sites that have compress the contents...
Whether you should delete the files depends on what they are. The filename extension merely indicates that they're compressed in a certain way. I can tell you this much: you can delete "VirusBarrier" without harming your system; in fact, your system will be the better for it.
What are "gz" files? Can I delete them?
