Is it possible to create time-lapse videos with iMovie?
The images would be imported from iPhone 4 with time-lapse apps such as iMotion HD, Timelapse, Gorillacam or single images made with the normal photocamera.

It is possible, but iMovie is not designed for this. I would not use iMovie except on a very short project.
Better tools are iStopMotion or QuickTime Pro.
