iTunes for windows 7 32-bit/64-bit???

I'm trying to download iTunes for my new computer, but it says 'This installer is intended for 32-bit versions of windows. Please obtain 64-bit installer from www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html' So i followed that link and downloaded it, then tried iTunes again, same response. I have windows 7 but to be honest I'm not sure if it is 32 or 64 bit. I found the 64 bit installer at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427, but when I download that, the exact same error message comes up, I can't win!

I'm trying to download iTunes for my new computer,

By any chance, did you use the PCMover utility to move files and programs to the new PC from a 32-bit system, anna? If so, was one of the programs that you moved a 32-bit version of iTunes? (If PC Mover has wedged a 32-bit iTunes on your system already, that can produce the effects that you're getting on update or uninstall attempts.)

I'm very interested in this thread. I just upgraded my old XP system to a new Windows 7 box using PCMover. The only message I get is that I'm missing some component and that the download failed. Evidently, 32-bit versions of both Bonjour and iTunes were ported over. Since my new system is 64-bit, the uninstall for the 32-bit system, which also ported over, won't work. The .msi for removal is identified as incorrect. I can't nuke this the normal way. I'm assuming then that I need to actually delete files and directly delete elements from the registry. Are there instructions for how to solve this one?

Thanks to a friend, I have the solution.

1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

This is Microsoft's utility to that will sort through your Registry issues. You'll want to have it de-install all things Apple, Bonjour, and ITunes, if they're not already de-installed.

2. Download the iTunes installer to your desktop. Right-click the installer to run as Administrator.

3. If it still doesn't run quite right, deinstall all things Apple, Bonjour, and iTunes and repeat step 2.

It worked for me.
