I'm not updating my Touch4 to iOS 5 ever - any long term disadvantages to that?

I've heard all the horror stories about folks's touches bricking up after upgrading to ios 5. How long can I stay on iOs 4 without any hitches. All my apps work fine (except EQU which is not backward compatible with previous OS versions), and my Touch does everything I need it to do - Play music, play videos, read ebooks and PDFs, surf the web, check my e-mail, play my old school 80s video game apps, take photos with the camera, and stream radio stations via TuneIn.

Will progress creep up on me and render my Touch4 useless? Or will I have at least a few years of reliable usage from it before uprgrading the unit entirely?
