When recharging battery, ipad turns back on

Is it possible to keep an iPad turned off while it is connected to AC power for the purposes of recharging its battery?

Our iPads keep turning back on when we connect them to AC power. Does this mean that it will take longer

for the iPad to obtain a full charge? I work at a Library and we lend them out to patrons. We need to be able

to recharge the batteries as quickly as possible between patrons. I am wondering if there is a trick to keeping

them turned off while connected to recharge them. They are iPad2s. (I've noticed my iPad original version always turns

back on when connected to AC for recharging.)

Thanks.

This is perfectly normal behavior for the iPads. If the battery has enough of a charge in it at the time, you can turn the iPad off while it charges. But it does no harm whatsoever for the iPad to turn back on again when charging and it does not add any sigificant charging time to the battery. No worries - all is fine!

The iPads should turn off by themselves after whatever interval you selected in Settings> General> Auto Lock.

This puts the iPad to sleep - it does not power the device off - and that is the OP's concern - that the device starts up (powers up) again when charging the battery - and is not powered off when charging.
