Itunes Store Error Code 5002

Hello,

I'm on Windows XP.

I recently updated Itunes and now I can't buy anything from the store on my Ipod and when I try to buy on my PC I get "Error Code 5002".

I've searched extensively for an answer. I've found solutions such as "change your credit card info" ect. I've tried that. It doesn't work.

Here's another popular "solution" I've found:

  1. Log in using an administrator account.
  2. Locate
your iTunes Music folder. If you are not sure where your iTunes Music
folder is located, launch iTunes, open Preferences from the iTunes Menu
and click Advanced. This will show you where the iTunes Music Folder is
    located.
  3. Select the iTunes Music folder.
  4. From the File menu, choose Get Info.
  5. Click the disclosure triangle to open the Ownership and Permissions section of the Info window.
  6. Set the permissions as follows (you may be prompted to enter an administrator account password):
    • Owner: access Read & Write
    • Group: access Read Only
    • Others: access Read Only
  7. Click the “Apply to enclosed items” button.
  8. Close the Get Info window.

This doesn't work either for me. Maybe I'm not doing it right. I follow the steps Launch iTunes>open Preferences>Click Advanced (This is maybe where I'm getting stuck). After I click "Advanced" I see Itunes Media Folder Location in a grey box. My options here are to Change or Reset. If I hit Change I get a Browse for Folder box. There is no option for "get info" as directed above in step 4. If I right click on the itunes Media Folder, I get a drop down menu with various options like Expand or Preferences.

One last solution I tried was creating a new Apple ID and entering my Credit Card billing information in this new account. It still doesn't work.

Does anyone have any other solutions?

This error has to do with the iTunes service, since it occurs for users on various versions of OS X, and seems to affect Windows users as well. This error seems to be due to problems with the user's shopping cart, and in many cases can be fixed by changing the method of purchasing content as well as clearing the shopping cart.

Fixes

Change the shopping preferences to 1-click In order to bypass the shopping cart, users can set their purchases to immediately download by enabling 1-click shopping. This is available in the iTunes preferences under the "Store" section.

Clear contents of shopping cart This problem may also be caused by problems with the items that are currently stored in the users's shopping cart, and several people have reported clearing this problem by removing all items from the shopping cart. It is then recommended to sign out of the store and sign in again in order to refresh the shopping

I'm still stuck.

As far as I know, I've always had 1-click shopping on Itunes. I've never even seen a shopping cart in the itunes store. At the top of my itunes store window there are various options: File, Edit, View, Controls, Store, ect. If I hit Store there, I get Reload, back, Home, ect. Various options but nothing to do with 1-click shopping as you stated. Below The top level options I mentioned there is Movies, Music, Tv shows, App store (various options but nothing about 1-click shopping. On the far right corner of that page is my user name. If I click on user name, I get a drop down window with options to Redeem, sign out, wish list or account. If I hit account it takes me to an account information page that has the billing information about my account, but nothing about 1-click shopping.

I'm lost

Alright VTWINCRAZY84 I think I figured out your directions...

You were saying to open Itunes and then go Edit>Preferences>Store

Once I got to the Store part, I have a section called Automatic Downloads with 3 boxes to check and uncheck: Music, Apps and Books. All 3 are checked.

Below that there are 2 boxes titled "Always check for available downloads" and "Automatically download pre-orders when available". Only the "Always check for available downloads" is checked.

That's all there is. There is no mention of 1-click shopping or shopping carts or anyting like that. I've signed in and out of the itunes store. I've cleared my credit card information, exited the store, resigned into the store and re-entered the credit card information.

Nothing works. All I ever get is error 5002

Alright, for the record, I was just going to give up. I tried all the solutions mentioned and then some. Nothing worked. Then tonight, just to see what would happen, I logged onto Itunes and tried to buy something. It worked. Apparently Apple just fixed it on it's own over time.

Just letting you guys know in case anyone else has this problem...
