Messages app badge on message send failure

When a message does not send in the messages app due to a lack of singal or moving from an area of singal to an area of no signal, and the message does not send, even with notifications and badges turned on and working, the messages app does not alert that there is a message send failure, so unless I open the messages app, I think my message has been sent when it hasnt which can be a problem with important messages and not knowing that they werent sent.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am on iOS 5.0.1 but experienced this also in iOS 5

This is a big flaw.

Apple please fix this.
