Q: How to move a Aperture Library

you can just copy the Library. It is a package, that you can copy with the Finder like any other Finder item. After you copied the library to your external drive, double click it to open it in Aperture, and Aperture will know its new location.

Is your library referenced? Then you also will need to move the master files, but that you should do by using Aperture's "relocate masters" feature.

I just tried this 5 times (to copy the library to an external hard disk).

I always get error code 36. Nothing seems to work?

is the error message "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data can’t be read or written. (Error code -36).”  ?

Then probably your external drive is formatted MS-DOS (FAT) - that is the default formatting for new drives. An Aperture library needs to be on a local volume formatted MacOS X Extented, see:

Reformat your external drive Mac OS X Extended, Journaled using the Disk Utility (in Applications > Utilities).
